Got my call from finance and Freedom Pharm
So RSNY ordered me meds for an IUI cycle and IVF just in case my ins wouldn't cover the IVF meds. Only had to pay $190. I was expecting it to be more so I feel as ok as I can about that. Finance told me my IVF would be 9k but would be more if we need icsi or assisted hatching. Plus the usual extras of freezing. I do not have IVF coverage at all. Does this sound about right? I thought it was more like 15k so I am a bit relieved. Does this include only one transfer? I know it includes retrieval transfer and anesthesia but if we get to freeze embies will I have to pay 9k again if it doesn't take the first time????

$9000 sounds like a great price at RSNY I thought it would be closer to $12,000 but maybe there is a reduced price for OOP patients. That would include the cost for one transfer.
If you have embryos to freeze you can do a FET so you would have to pay for the transfer which is nowhere near the cost of IVF.

Yes sounds right. And most likely they will reccomend Icsi which is 2500.

They said only if his sperm needs it. His sperm count and motility are usually great. Will they be honest or try to add it on? How would I know since it is after the fact??

i did not know they did it till after
9k sounds pretty good!
make sure it covers everything from blood to all appts and the anesthesia etc
u don't want any surprise bills

Yes it does. All appts, transfer, retrieval, anesthesia monitoring.
Why did they do ICSI then if he had no issues?? Where did you have your IVF done? At RSNY??

Glad you got your necessary meds. The cost of the cycle sounds about right. They are probably giving you a different rate from insurance. Insurance NEVER pays the amount the are actually billed.

Sorry to hijack, but this is what I do NOT understand. They will cover the SAME EXACT meds for IUI, but NOT IVF - WTF?!?!? Does anyone know why this is?

Tell me about it. I have no idea! They specifically asked me over the phone. I said IUI just incase they wouldn't cover it.
