Re: Ladies with preexisting high blood pressure
They switched me to labetalol when I started TTC (so, November-December I think). I'm on it now. No side effects really but it also isn't controlling my bp as well as the hydraclorithiazide I was on beforehand did.

I've been on labatolol. I was on it with my son. Then after I had him I switcheded to something else and 6 months before TTC I switched back to labatolol and have been taking it. I haven't experienced any side effects.

Labetalol is THE drug for pre-eclampsia and high bp during pregnancy. The drug classes can be a BIT misleading. You should be fine!

Re: Ladies with preexisting high blood pressure
I didn't have pre-existing HBP, but I did develop it very early with pregnancy #3 and was on Labetalol the entire pregnancy! By the time I delivered at 37 weeks becuase of pre-e, I was taking 400 mg 3x a day!! (1200 mg). Its definitely safe for breastfeeding too, as I continued to take it for the year I BF as well.
15 months after delivering, I still have high blood pressure, but since I am not having any more kids and I am done breast feeding, I was recently switched to Altace (ramipril).

Re: Ladies with preexisting high blood pressure
I was on Aldomet (generic name Methyldopa) when I developed high BP in my second tri. My BP was just borderline high though- like 140 ish over 80 So I was on a low dose the entire rest of the pregnancy and I delivered with no complications and as soon as I delivered my BP went right back to normal.

labatolol is actually a class B drug. Dont worry, it totally safe to take pregnant.
