Hawaii Tour Companies - Which One?
Hello,
My husband and I are looking into booking a few tours when we visit Maui (and Kauai as well) this September. We would prefer to do a guided trip for the Sunrise at Haleakala and Road to Hana (don't want to worry about the drives on our own). I know there are a lot of tour companies out there and was wondering if any were more highly recommended than others. I've looked into discoverhawaii tours and polynesian adventure tours. I've also checked out Viator's website. Would you recommend any of those or any others I should be focusing on?

We've never used a tour company on either Maui or Kauai. We like to get out and explore on our own and honestly both drives (to Haleakala and the Road to Hana) are easy ones. The best part of the Road to Hana is the journey. We've done the RTH a couple of times and like to meander at our own pace.
We were just on Maui and the Big Island, and we saw TONS of Roberts Hawaii tour buses.

My best advice it to book these tours through the concierge when you get there. You get a much better deal and they will tell you the best/most/safest companies to use imo... It was way too hard for me to book these things through the internet at home, b/c I had no concept of what was good or bad.
Maui is amazing, you will love it!

we did the road to hana tour I believe with valley isle excursions. it was in a van with about 10 people or so. DH did not want to do the drive himself! Was a long excursion (i think it was about 12 hours!) but a very interesting experience! enjoy!

I've heard a lot about people booking once they get to their hotels with the concierge. I guess I'm just worried that there won't be availability by the time we get there. Do you think that won't be the case?

There will def. be availability if you are flexible. In fact, if you are flexable which days you go for each tour you can get an even better deal. We didnt care what day we did what, so we got the last 2 seats on our helicopter tour for that day etc and it was 1/4 of the price cause they wanted to have a full helicopter.. Same with the boat cruise we did, they had 1 day where it was almost full--we picked that day, and paid 50% of the normal cost.
