Had my appt with Halfen at RSNY
And I thought we were going another round of IUI with injectables but he wants us to go straight to IVF. I am ovulating as we speak so hopefully it works this month(doubtful) but if not i need to get a lot of schooling in and decision making in the next two weeks or so. I was a little taken back although I shouldn't be I guess. Need to talk to the woman who handles financing and prices of IVF. I am scared!! Does anyone know if Oxford who doesn't cover IVF will cover the meds?? Will those have to be OOP?? I am freaking out right now! They told me they may be able to get donated meds. I think I will need follistim but he said we could work with others if need be.
Sorry just feel overwhelmed all of a sudden!

Why are they not trying a cycle w shots if you are covered for Iui? You never did right? At this point what's another cycle? My cycle was amazing on injectables

I don't know hun, it's truly a big decision... If finances are an issue, why didn't he let you go on injectables??? I just know that was going to be my next move if I stayed at the RE. Many women respond beautifully to injectables! However, IVF is more $$ but the success rate is more predictable and I know you don't want to miss any more time.

I guess he feels like with my tube blocked I am better off with IVF. Plus he doesn't want my egg reserve to go down anymore. I guess my FSH has been steadily climbing because of my age. It started off great and now I am in the 9s. I guess when it hits 10 that's when they get concerned? I don't know. DH and I have a lot of discussing to do.

Imo I would try another iui and if it doesn't work do ivf. But the doc knows ur issues better of course. Btw my fsh is in the 20s and I have a 1 year old ds! Gl!

Awe I didn't know your numbers weren't good. Mine aren't the best either as you know so that is a big reason why I want to try and just go for IVF in the fall if I don't get preg in another two cycles. My former RE wanted at least one cycle with injectables bc you can see how well you will respond for IVF. Maybe see if you can at least try one inj cycle? It's a hard decision. Keep us updated!!

Really?? He made it sound so grave. Maybe I will just go with the IUI. Do I have to tell them that before day 3? Or can I just wait till then?

I would call and tell them, you need them to order you the shots and trigger- I started gonal in day 2 or 3 can't remember at the moment

i would do a iui this time just to get everything ready for ivf(of course hope the iui works) bc u have to get all the meds and do the paperwork and figure ins out etc

I am torn. Even DH is torn. Do we try IUI one more time since its covered and hope for the best or are we delaying the inevitable? Why is this so hard?! I need a crystal ball. Please someone send me one!!!

you been thru so much, whats 1 more cycle to knock out all odds- i mean thats how i feel
If this is a failed cycle (hopefully its not) call your RE and get the injectables ordered

I completely agree with Gina. I was told it takes a while for paperwork and meds and all when IVF starts so you might as well go for another cycle with injectables- esp since you have not tried it yet! This is what I would do. Again, it's your decision and you know your body best!!

When I asked the IVF finance lady at RSoNY she said most insurance companies will cover the meds bc they can use the same meds for IUI and IVF; well, most of them anyway. I wish you the best in whatever decision you make! My insurance does not cover IVF either, and DH and I decided to exhaust all possibilities before we went straight for IVF. I agree with the other ladies...since it's covered I would try an injectable cycle first. You never know

Thanks everyone. I spoke with Christine and she is going to order all the meds for an IVF cycle with the meds for me to do an IUI cycle so that it is coversd(hopefully). If I don't get to IVF  then I will sell or donate my meds. I hope it comes down to that! I told DH I think we should go for IUI #6 just to see and this way it buys us more time to get our finances in order for IVF. I think he is skeptical about waiting since the dr didn't want us to, but I said how much worse could it get in one month?! Hopefully I will not be inserting my foot in my mouth. I guess we shall see!

Ok so freedom pharmacy called and she was reading off a very lengthy list of meds and she asked if it was correct!!?? How would I know?! Especially since they went crazy with the amounts. I am scared to hear the cost! Do I need endometrin just yet? I know for IVF but not IUI. That alone was 100 bucks the last time! I don't know why since I have prescription coverage. Part of me is hoping I get this stuff and end up not needing it but if it is gonna cost over $300 then I kind of want to only order what I need. How do I figure this out or do I just go with the flow??!
