Turks & Caicos - Provo
We are headed to T&C for the first time and I'm hoping you ladies can provide any info you have about where to eat, what to do, airport transfers, etc etc. Any and all info is welcome! Also, this was a last min trip so not a ton of $$ to put toward it - we are booked at the Alexandra on Grace right now because the price was right. Can anyone speak to that hotel and/or make a recommendation for something better yet affordable?? TIA!!

Re: Turks & Caicos - Provo
I stayed at the Alexandra Resort in 2011. We had a great time! We were traveling with our DD who was 19 mos at the time so it was a very laid back, relaxing vacation. We just kept it simple, no big excursions or anything like that . We ate a few times at the restaurant right at the resort, Mango Reef. Food was good but there was a bit of a fly situation . More annoying than anything else. We also ate at some of the other hotel restaurants right along the beach. One was The Veranda and I think the other was at the Sibonne Hotel. We had no complaints about the food, everything was good and tasted fresh. I would definitely (and fully intend to) go back to The Alexandra. We loved the 1 bedroom suite setup that we booked. The separate bedroom and full kitchen was fantastic since we had a toddler in tow. The first day we got there we took a shuttle from the hotel to the local supermarket. We picked up some milk for DD and some food, wine and snacks. After she would fall asleep we would sit on the balcony with a nice glass of wine. It was great. I do remember hearing Da Conch Shack had some very good food as well, but we never made it there. I know you had take a cab to get there but we would have definitely checked it out if it were just us. Oh and the water is AMAZING. So clear and turquoise!!
Have a great time!
eta: As far as we saw, we were the only ones with a child at the hotel. We saw other kids around at the other resorts/restaurants but none at The Alexnadra (we went in early June). Thankfully, DD was an angel back then, lol.

I'm so jealous! we were there in Jan and it was so amazing and I can't wait to go back. we stayed at the seven stars but my cousin went recently and stayed at the Alexandra and enjoyed it. for restaurants, definitely try caicos cafe, lemon cafe, bay bistro and coco bistro. we needed reservations because it was pretty busy when we were there (right after New Years) but check with your hotel. its such a beautiful and relaxing place, best beach and water ever. enjoy!

We’re back and we had a wonderful time!
Turks and Caicos is a beautiful island! Already I can’t wait to go back!
Here's my mini review:
Transportation: Prior to arrival, I read reviews on taxi service in T&C and found that Majestic Taxi was highly recommended. Antoinette and her husband were wonderful throughout our stay and I'm glad we found them. We used them for every ride we needed throughout our stay. www.majestictaxisandtours.com
Hotel: We stayed at the Alexandra Resort located on Grace Bay. Upon arrival we were greeted with an envelope of hotel coupons (some really good ones – ie: $150 at the hotel’s restaurant Mango Reef’). The room was equipped with a balcony, small kitchen, etc. The room was a bit small and could have used some updating but overall it met our needs. We loved the beautiful view we had of the pool, beach and restaurant.
During our stay we used the concierge services, which were helpful with booking our excursion, dining and teaching us about the island. We also attended their weekly Manager’s Cocktail Hour . There were other amenities we did not get to use but perhaps would for our next visit such as bikes, a gym and a spa. I would recommend this hotel for those who are trying to keep cost down and won't spend a ton of time in the room. www.alexandraresort.com
Activities: Dream Tours: Half day Snorkel & Conch Cruise was great for some time out on the water. www.caicosdreamtours.com
Shopping We went to the salt mills center for shopping where there were mostly souvenir shops…there isn’t much else by way of shopping on the island.
Dining:
Breakfast We had breakfast at Mango Reef at The Alexandra Resort on at least two days. The portions were huge and the food was excellent. www.mangoreef.com
Bay Bistro at the Sibonne: We had Sunday brunch at Bay Bistro, after reading many reviews online that it is a great brunch. There weren’t any lunch offerings, only breakfast food, but there were some specials they had (ie: eggs benedict) that are not on the regular breakfast menu. It was decent at best. www.sibonne.com/grace-bay-bistro
Lunch We had lunch at Mango Reef on three different days - we enjoyed each meal at MF!
Harvey’s at the Regent Grand was good - it was nice to sit there poolside. www.theregentgrandresort.com
Dinner
Mango Reef at The Alexandra Resort It is the only restaurant in grace bay that put tables right on the beach near the water (without special request). We enjoyed the food and live music – it was the liveliest of the places we at at (ie: lighting, more people there, bar scene etc).
Anacaona at Grace Bay Club We arrived at dusk, and enjoyed the close view of the water while sitting on the deck under the palm trees. The food was excellent; after we ate we enjoyed Infinity Lounge and live music. The casino is also in walking distance. www.gracebayresorts.com/gracebayclub/dining/anacaona
Somewhere Cafe We wanted something low-key so we asked around and ‘Somewhere Café’ was the repeat recommendation. The cuisine was Mexican, which I normally enjoy, but this place was nothing to write home about – wouldn’t go back. www.somewherecafeandlounge.com
Hemingway’s at the Sands: Another nice restaurant near the water. Food was good – though not the best of the trip. www.thesandstc.com/the-resort/dining
Coco Bistro This was the only restaurant we dined at that was not affiliated/attached to a hotel. It was a free standing restaurant nestled between an abundance of beautiful palm trees. The food was great and the service was the friendliest of the places we went to. I would definitely return. www.cocobistro.tc
BBQ on the Beach at the Regent Grand On our final night we enjoyed a BBQ on the beach at the Regent Grand hotel, which was just next door to the Alexandra Resort. There was a buffet spread filled with conch soup, assorted salads, assorted breads, vegetables, potatoes and various meats. The food was good. There was live music, dancing and a bonfire. Drinks/Snacks
Lemon 2 Go: Excellent protein shake! Bay Bistro: Homemade ice-cream IGA Grocery: www.gracewayiga.com
