Food you avoid during pregnancy
Other than the coldcuts, fish and soft cheeses what foods do you stay away from?

Food you avoid during pregnancy
The only thing I have stayed away from is sushi. I have had cold cuts, soft pasteurized cheeses and other things in moderation.

Re: Food you avoid during pregnancy
I have stayed away from soft serve ice-cream/yogurt machines.
I also haven't used any self serve places like salad bars, etc. since I feel like those can be especially germy (I've seen people take food from them with their hands... sneeze.. etc.).

Food you avoid during pregnancy
I don't eat fish anyway so I've been staying away from that with no problem. I have avoided fresh mozzarella as much as it's killing me like last night when DH's aunt made the fresh mzz. / tomato / basil salad. And cold cuts. I cannot imagine eating them hot ---- ew.
Ironically I don't care about cold cuts on any given day but I crave them now that I can't have them.

Re: Food you avoid during pregnancy
The typical:
*non-pasturized or questionable cheeses (soft cheeses:blue, feta, goat) *cold cuts *sushi (which I wouldn't miss if I never had it again) *hot dogs (although I think i'm going to give in and go to nathan's this summer to get one) medium/medium well steak (unless I cook it myself) *fish (again, unless I cook it myself or get it from a 'reputable' place) *fresh ceaser dressing *alfredo sauce * and any salad (macaroni, pasta, cole slaw unless it's straight from the fridge)
I THINK that's it. (as if that wasn't enough already lol)

Re: Food you avoid during pregnancy
I have stayed away from Cold Cuts! My biggest concern is the Listeria!!! I also have stayed away from certain Fish that is high in mercury! Any soft cheeses, caffenine. I've given up on Coffee and soda. If I want them I have to have it decaf.
I haven't had any hot dogs but I am craving one so bad!! With mustard and beans!!! YUM!!

Re: Food you avoid during pregnancy
friend told me that like less than 200 people a year get listeria from cold cuts, so I have had them here and there- try and get them from reputable places and get boars head- no nitrates (i think?)
like 99% of cheeses are pasturized in the US- so I dont worry about that
unpasturized honey I am now avoiding because of botulism risk. I used to take local honey to help with allergies and it wasnt pasturized

Why Alfredo Sauce? Never heard of that being a no-no.

For me, it's because of the raw egg that's in the sauce. I know it gets heated up by the pasta but still, technically it's not cooked. It just makes me paranoid. It's the same reason I won't eat fresh ceaser dressing. Oh, and sunny side up eggs for the same reasons.
The only things my doc said was a no-no was cold cuts (although in his words, "If I saw my pregnant wife eating a turkey sandwich here and there I wouldn't go crazy"), cut back on caffiene (which isn't an issue because I don't drink coffee and tea is whatever for me), soft cheeses, and stay away from high mercury fish and sushi.
Everything else I've decided to avoid lol.

alfredo sauce typically is not made with any eggs at all. it is carbonara sauce that typically is made with raw eggs and the hot pasta heats up the sauce. just an fyi in case you really miss alfredo

I've been avoiding Chinese food. I always see to get sick when I eat it, which especially s*cks because I crave egg rolls every day!

Re: Food you avoid during pregnancy
-before TTC i weaned myself off coffee, and i plan to stick with no caffeine throughout pregnancy (i never drink soda anyway so it was just coffee for me) -raw seafood, undercooked fish (like how salmon is sometimes cooked to medium in restaurants), high mercury fish, smoked seafood -unpasteurized anything -cold cuts/deli sliced cheese -undercooked eggs or meat
i also recently read that sprouts (like alfalfa) are a pregnancy no no because of potential bacteria contamination. and you can't really wash those well without them getting really bogged down with water and soggy. i like adding them to sandwiches or salads sometimes so i'm actually most sad about the alfalfa sprout restriction

Re: Food you avoid during pregnancy
Just cold cuts really.
A bunch of the other no-no foods I don't really eat anyway like sushi and fish.
I've cut back on soda and only drink decaf tea.

Food you avoid during pregnancy
Other than alcohol and sushi I never stayed away from anything else.
Artificial sweeteners were already cut out by my neurologist long ago.
Other than that no need to eliminate anything.

My first pregnancy I stayed away from caffeine, artificial sweeteners, fish, peanut butter, cold cuts, soda. This time I consume all of the above in moderation.
