Time-able "Braxton Hicks?"

Hi ladies...need your opinion. Since yesterday morning I have been having what I thought were braxton hicks contractions. I really hadnt been getting them the entire pregnancy and then yesterday I started getting major tightening in my belly every 7-8 minutes. No pain but just SUPER tight. I drank a TON of water so I know it wasn't dehydration. They have continued over night and even woke me up a few times. I am still having them today. Again, not painful, just tight and a tad uncomfortable. Have any of you experienced this? Not sure what I should do at this point?

Not sure, but my labor contractions started at midnight and didn't get at all painful until around 4pm. They were really painful around 6pm and baby was born at 8:11pm.

At the point you are in your pregnancy you should be taking any contraction seriously. Time them and call your dr if you are concerned.

My water broke before mine started to I can't really help.

Id call, if they are that consistent for that length of time, I dont believe its braxton hicks. Braxton hicks tend to be irregular, so id call to make sure they dont want to see u.

Goodluck!

My OB always told me that if you can time them and if they follow a pattern, then always call!

Re: Time-able "Braxton Hicks?"

If they don't get closer together or more painful, then they're Braxton Hicks. I've been able to time mine before. Also a good indicator that they're just Braxton Hicks is if they're not consistently painful, one will take your breath away then the next too don't hurt.

Your body is obviously preparing itself for the hard work of labor, so I guess I'd just wait it out.

That was my experience. I had them all the time with my last pregnancy. I had them hours before I went into actual labor, first 10 min apart, then down to 7-8 min, then they stopped. I kept hoping for the 5 min apart for 1 hour. They weren't painful but some more uncomfortable than others. Then I woke up with the real deal (painful, bloody show) a few hours later. I was 6cm dilated when I went in and 100% effaced so all that "prep" work helped.

I am 34 weeks and have been having Braxton Hicks since 28 weeks. The other day I had timeable Braxton Hicks but they weren't consistently at 5 minutes apart or less and they were EXACTLY how you are describing them...just a tightening, no pain. I timed them for about 2 hours and they even woke me up in the middle of the night. I had a doctor appointment today and she told me that if I am having them 5 minutes apart or less for 1 hour then I should call them. I actually plan on trying to labor as much at home before I go to the hospital. She told me that the further I go into my pregnancy the more my body will be practicing.

If they become painful or you are starting to get VERY concerned ALWAYS call your doctor. Good luck!

Re: Time-able "Braxton Hicks?"

I have been having them since about 18 weeks. Now at almost 34, they are much more frequent. At my 30 week high risk appointment, they had me on a monitor and they were 5 min apart. Had to do a swab to test for an enzyme that would be present in labor. It was negative. Its not painful, just very uncomfortable. I would call or at the very least definately discuss at your next appointment. Good luck!

I get bh all the time and have had several chunks of painful contractions for about an hour or so at a time, but no pattern to those. My plan has always been to call when contractions get progressively closer and more painful for over an hour. The other contractions may be doing some work getting you ready for labor, but aren't real labor in the sense that they mean you are about to deliver. Of course, if it's before 36/37 weeks and you are concerned that they could be real, err on the side of caution and call.
