Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

We are fairly superstitious so I told DH I didn't want to consider this my 'first' Mother's Day. Consequently, he didn't do anything for me (totally fine). I was then SHOCKED that my MIL who is also superstitious got me a card and a Pea in the Pod gift card, and my dad who I get almost all my superstition from called to wish me a Happy Mother's Day (he's in Toronto). It was very sweet of both of them but honestly very surprising!

What about everyone else?

Re: Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

I got 2 "Happy Mother's Day-to-be" cards in the mail. DH got me flowers and a card too. MIL gave me a little lotion avon set.

It was nice. Odd, because technically I don't believe it's my first but it was nice anyway.

I'm more excited that next year, since it really will be my first, that I alone get to decide what we're doing instead of trying to make everyone else happy.

Re: Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

I was shocked by the amount of messages I received. I seriously wasn't expecting anything. My parents gave me this cute dress, in laws a beautiful card with flowers, even DH bought me a mother's day card and gave me flowers. My 2 year old nephew made a card that he scribbled on so cute and his mom gave me some mommy magazines. I have to say at first it felt weird getting messages but then I felt happy lol

Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

When I was PG we did not celebrate it for me. It was fine by me because I did not consider it my holiday yet.

My mom got me silver costume jewelry (necklace with a starfish charm and earrings) and my husband got me a hanging plant... we have hook for one next to our front door and he was just saying that he wanted to get a new plant for it... si that was more of a gift for both of us! I got a few "Mother to be" cards too. It was nice!

Re: Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

I come from a big close family. My cousin who is one of my best friends is due the day before me. We both heard heart beats so we told my grandma and the rest of the family since god forbid anything happen the family would know. My husband made dinner for my mom and I and got me flowers. My mom got me a card and figurine and my MIL got me a card. My best friend sent me a sweet card as well. It was a nice a day.

Re: Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

My dh got me a pair of earrings Chat Icon Whether this was a "real" mothers day or not, this is the furthest we've come in any of our pregnancies. Heck if things went as planned I wouldn't even be the one carrying my baby right now!!! It deserves to be celebrated Chat Icon

I also got lots of messages from friends .. not sure about gifts from other relatives because we didn't see them yesterday since my dad was sick.

ohhh almost forgot, my parents actually sent me a bouquet of flowers and chocolate which I received on Friday. After infertility, losses, and a failed surrogate, pregnancy in this house is a BIG deal! Chat Icon

Re: Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

I didn't consider this my first mothers day either. I did get a few messages and cards from people. Most surprising was my MIL bought me a new lounge chair for outside and DH bought me a new wine fridge (our old one broke). I was shocked to get anything. Although I am due in 8 days so I guess that's why.

Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

I mentioned a couple times that I didn't want to celebrate this year because he's not born yet and I wanted it to be special for next year. DH gave me a little shout out on FB which was fine and very sweet. My parents found a "soon to be" card. My ILs also found a card and my MIL gave me a check to get a pedicure with her & SIL (she never listens when I tell her things) and a plaque with a DIL poem on it. SIL gave me a single rose.

Honestly, next year I really only would like something from DH (which is really from our son but since he won't even by 1 yet, I'm sure DH will have to take care of it). It's "Mother's Day" which to me is just "buy something for your mother, mother-in-law, Stepmother, Godmother, etc" not "buy something for everyone you know that is a mother". It's a nice gesture but I really don't want people spending money on me next year, not that they will listen.

I did get a lot of texts though and message on FB.

Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

I posted something about this a few weeks ago about whether or not to celebrate mother's day if your baby was not due yet. I was torn on it myself. But then yesterday morning my baby was kicking and moving around like crazy and it just hit me, if I'm not this baby's mother then what am I? So yesterday when my family and even complete strangers at the diner wished me a happy mother's day I smiled and said thank you and felt like I deserved it!

DH got me a very cute "From your baby" card & filled it out from the baby. My MIL sent me a "happy mothers day as you wait for baby" card.

Re: Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

I'm also very superstitous! I didn't mention Mother's Day to anyone but I was surprised that a lot of people recognized it.

DH bought me breakfast, scratch-offs, flowers and a card.

My mom bought me scratch offs but no card because she knows I'm superstitous.

DH's best friends sent me a card and a Destination Maternity gift card.

My older brother gave me a card.

MIL and FIL bought me a statue of a man and a pregnant woman and 2 frames to put the sonograms in.

I also got texts/calls from my dad, step-mother, little brother and good friend.

Mother's Day - how did the people around you handle it?

We used mother's day as a reason to announce my pregnancy ... although my mom has known from the beginning. So I wasn't expecting anything at all but my mom got me a picture frame to put the sono in I thought it was really sweet!
