if you were thin prepregnancy, when did you start gaining weight?

I'm 14 weeks and haven't gained any weight yet. I'm not concerned just yet, but they say if you're thin pre-preg, you'll probably gain more.

I'll prob talk to my ob when I go at 16w.

I think it's random. I was thin pre pregnancy and gained 12lbs in the first trimester. I'm 25wks now and in my opinion up more than I should but none of my doctors are concerned. Everyone is different.

Re: spinoff to weight gain-thin prepregnancy

I agree with PennyCat. I was thin pre-pregnancy and even though people claim I'm only gaining in my belly I know that isn't true. I gained 9 lbs. in the first trimester. I haven't been weighed since 13 weeks (just over 17 weeks now) and I don't weigh myself so I'm not sure how much I've gained since then. Unless a doctor says something to me either way (too much or too little gain) I'm not concerned. If you are worried you can mention it to your doctor but unless your doctor seems concerned I wouldn't worry too much - everyone's body is different and I truly believe our bodies do what they need to do during pregnancy!

Re: spinoff to weight gain-thin prepregnancy

I've always been slightly underweight for my height by a good 5lbs or so.

I had a semi-rough first trimester with MS and although I didn't lose anything, I also didn't gain. I don't think I started gaining anything until I was... 16/17w maybe. I'm now 23w and up about 15lbs or so. I do know that many pregnant women gain most of their weight at the end of the 2nd trimester to the end.

As of right now, I'm carrying a "typical" boy. My boobs and but/hips are slightly fuller but that's it. If it weren't for my belly, people wouldn't even know I'm more then halfway through my pregnancy.

I do worry here and there that I'm not gaining enough, or my belly isn't big enough, but as long as the baby and I are healthy, weight doesn't mean that much to me anymore.

Thanks ladies. I didn't gain any weight in my first trimester, I actually lost a pound or two and I didn't have MS. The doctor hasn't said anything to me, so I'm just going to wait and see how much I weigh in at my 16w and if anything ask the doc. Makes me feel better to hear some people didn't gain into well into the 2nd trimester.

Re: spinoff to weight gain-thin prepregnancy

I've been worrying that I've been carrying too small as well. I was thin pre-pregnancy and haven't been gaining as much as I though I would. I'm 21 weeks now and I've gained about 12 lbs.

I had my anatomy scan last week and the baby was measuring just fine so don't worry about not gaining weight right away. I'm sure everything is fine! Chat Icon

I was thin pre pregnancy and I gain a lot right off the bat and it continued throughout. I gained about 50 lbs with #1.

I was probably considered thin pre-pregnancy (6'1" @ 135-140). I knew I was pregnant because of my increase in weight/bloat (mainly in my chest.) I'm only in my 11th week and I've gained 15lbs. Chat Icon

I gained 60+ lbs with my previous 3 pregnancies, so I'm guessing this pregnancy isn't going to be any different. Chat Icon

Your doctor should tell you what your target weight gain is. I was thin pre-pregnancy and I was told 35lbs was my target weight gain. According to my OB, I have only put on 6lbs and I am 26w.

(I put 7lbs on before even going to the OB so technically I have put on 13lbs)

This time around I started gaining around 23 weeks. I can feel it now. But I haven't been able to go to the gym as much as before.
