Painting - Where/how to start
How on earth do you pick colors for an entire house? Anyone have suggestions? I like earthy tones in the grey, blue and green families. I want it all to flow together nicely. I am horrible at this type of stuff!

Get a few paint swatches and tape them on the walls of the rooms you want to paint. Make sure the room is well lit so you can see how the color might look. You can also go over to the library and borrow some books on redoing bathrooms, living rooms, etc. These books often have colors on the wall for ideas. Also check out some home magazines like House Beautiful for ideas.

Re: Painting - Where/how to start
I would go to a paint store and grab a bunch of sample cards. Then take them and look at them in context with the furniture you will be using, textiles, etc.
Once you have narrowed it down to 2-3 colors per room put up some swatches in the actual room - the lighting in the room will make a big difference and you should be able to pick the one you like the best.
Good luck!

Painting - Where/how to start
I started with one color that I had to have. Then I googled which colors went best with that color. Got all the swatches and placed them on my walls until I narrowed it down!

I only worried about colors in open areas "flowing together".
My bedrooms I did not worry about the rest of the house, My bathrooms match the bathroom and nothing else.
Its only the hall, living and dining room that flow.

Re: Painting - Where/how to start
We went to Home Depot and got color charts showing rooms and what colors they used. It helped alot. Then we got samples of the colors and painted them on the walls. The samples were like $3 each. It was helpful
