Best flowers to plant in full sunlight?

Our yard is sunny almost ALL day. I want to plant something that will survive more then a few weeks... What is good to plant? Also what is good to plant in planters? I have a deck at our new place and I want to put them on the railings... Thanks.

And where is the best place to buy them? Not somewhere too expensive please... I need a lot!!

Re: Best flowers to plant in full sunlight?

I was just at a nursery yesterday asking the same question. I have an area that is in full sunlight most of the day.

They suggested Nepeta and Coreopsis flowers. They are perennials so they will bloom each year.

Re: Best flowers to plant in full sunlight?

my impatients are always so good and strong - i just have to make sure they get water if it's a very hot day, just once a day, and they are good in the sun.

Impatiens are diseased this year, so those are a no go. New Guinea Impatiens are good to go though because they are a different species.

Re: Best flowers to plant in full sunliggeraniumsht?

My begonias last all summer in the full sun.

ETA: for pots, I usually do a tall spike in the middle, with geraniums around it and then a low white something (forget what its called, but its kind of fern-like).
