Hair color.... Help!
I think this is a part of getting older, but need your help.
I have been coloring my own hair for years. Even hair professionals have told me what a great job I do ( I was trained at 20 by my friends who did hair).
Lately though, it just isn't working. I always did reds. I do darker now, but I find the color doesn't stay as long. It oxidizes really fast, which then makes it look multicolored but not in a good way. The temple area changes first so it gets darker and grays poke out. On a few weeks it looks dry and I just look washed out and old. I use coconut oil in it so it looks glossier but the color looks blah.
I have tried browner shades and its still happening.
Do I need to start getting it done professionally? Are there hair dyes out there that are just better for coarse, thick hair now turning gray? (I will be 40 in November).
Any advice? My hair was always healthy and vibrant even after dying it, and the color stayed for a while. I'm at a loss of what to do. I'd like to keep it long, but I'm starting to think I need to do shorter styles as my next step.
Thanks!

Have you always used the same brand? Do you use a box or get the professional stuff? Maybe buy a tub of Moroccan oil hair mask and leave it in your hair overnight? Sometimes I use it as my regular conditioner too-not crazy about the smell but I feel it leaves it smoother-I also use chi oil as well (on wet or dry hair). Maybe use a sulfate free shampoo?

Re: Hair color.... Help!
When I get my hair colored, she usually colors the roots and then covers the rest of the hair with a glaze. It looks shiny and healthy when she's done...and lasts for 4 weeks until my grey comes back enough that I look like an old lady again.
