Whooping Cough Vaccine

My doctor suggested the whooping cough vaccine. ANyone else's doctor encourage it? Did you do it? Why or why not?

I'm a huge needle phobe (I literally didn't have a shot since I was 13 until I got blood work done when I got pregnant). I don't want to not do something for my baby because of my fear.

Whooping Cough Vaccine

They offered it to me in the hospital when I gave birth to DS and I took it. It had a major resurgence at the time and since he couldn't get the shot, I was basically his only line of defense.

Crashing: I got it with dd1 in the hospital after I had her. This time dd2 is 7 weeks old, they asked if I wanted it told them I got it 2 yrs ago and then we forgot. When I brought dd2 to the ped the first time at 5 day sold she asked if I got I said back in 2010 and she said they want it every pregnancy now. I went to my ob (same office building) and they said they want to give it every pregnancy in the 3rd trimester. She also said there has been some confusion about when to get it. Since I had it in the last 10 years I was ok. I'm in Massachusetts so not sure about Ny.
I would get it. It's a serious infection that can be harmful. I'm guessing they find that the nb will be protected if the mom gets it

I got it at 20 weeks because I am a teacher and there was an outbreak in my building. My doctors encouraged it.

I just got it. The injection didn't hurt but my arm hurt the next 2 days. My logic was that I work with kids and so does dh so I would rather no risk the babies health because of germy kids

My doctor told me the same exact thing. I specifically asked about it too, very annoying how all these docs say something different!

Whooping Cough Vaccine

The new recommendation by the CDC is to get it during the third trimester so that the baby can get some passive immunity and they recommend it during each pregnancy
I got it at 36 weeks

Re: Whooping Cough Vaccine

When I gave birth 4 years ago I received it after I gave birth. However now, 4 years later, The CDC guidelines state that pregnant women should get one dose during each pregnancy preferably at 27-36 weeks. By getting it during that time maternal pertussis antibodies will transfer to the newborn and protect the baby until the baby is able to get the dtap vaccines.
If not given during pregnancy should be given to the mom immediately after delivery before discharged from the hospital.

CDC guidelines have changed. That info is dated.
