Any tips on how to get a nice green lawn?

I love the look of a deep rich green lawn, that is soft to the touch! Besides sodding the whole lawn, any hidden tricks?

This probably isn't helpful at all, but I think it can depend on the type of grass. I know we have zoysia (sp?) grass (it was here when we bought the house). It is totally yellow and dead looking in the cold months, but in the warmer months, it is ridiculously green and lush looking!

Oh man my DH has been obsessed with our grass...Its all about watering it twice a day and fertilizing, giving vitamins etc... every season. He follows the Scott's directions and our grass looks lush and green and we used scotts seeds.

Go with the Scotts program. It works. I did all the steps last yr and just started again this yr and my lawn looks great. For those of us that dont have zoisa grass.we have a lot of work to do to get the green plush grass

Yup! The Scott's program is awesome - we just did it and are already seeing great results.

DH is obsessed with a green thick lawn and he is succeeding but it's been a couple year process to rehab our lawn and ongoing.

We use the Scott's seeds. Don't use anything else - our landscaper used cheap seed in one spot and not all of it took and it was rampant with weeds. DH aerated and overseeded in the fall and it really made a difference in our lawn this spring, especially in that spot. You want to get grass growing thick before weeds germinate in the spring.

We used the Scott's fertilizer system and the one with crabgrass preventer in the spring. That's key too otherwise the crabgrass takes over in July. It really helps.

Watering is tricky. You want deep roots. The roots won't grow down if the water is readily available at the top so you can't water too much. And you want to give it a good soaking to be effective or the water just evaporates from the surface.

Hope this makes sense. It's a lot of work these lawns!

My DH owns his own landscaping company and does a fertilizer treatment. Many people in our neighborhood had either Scotts or that other one Tru Thumb?? Green Thumb?? dropped them and took on DH's treatment because we had the nicest lawn in the neighborhood.
