Would you...
Our house is really really old (1929) and the bathrooms are original.
About 4 years ago, we happened to peel up one of the peel-and-stick tiles in the upstairs bath and discovered the most gorgeous marble black and white checkerboard tile underneath. We re-finished the floor and it looks amazing.
In the half bath on the first floor, there is the same peel-and-stick tiles. I lifted the corner of one up last night (why it took me so long, I have no idea - considering what we found upstairs  ). I have no idea what condition the floor is in underneath the vinyl tiles.
Would you take a chance and pull up the vinyl flooring that's there? Worst case, the marble floor is a disaster and we just re-tile over it.
We've kept the original design integrity throughout the whole house - nothing modern or contemporary.

I would absolutely pull it up...even if you had to put vinyl back over it...it isn't that expensive to do. Good Luck!

I'm going to start peeling everything up next week - we're hosting Mother's Day and I need that bathroom to be functional.
