installing an exterior door?
Hi! I'm new to this board because DH and I just started house hunting for our first home
We found a place we love and are thinking of putting an offer in, but there is one thing we don't like. We want to fence in the yard, but there is no door to the back (only the front door and a side door that leads to the driveway). This would be a huge pain trying to let the dog out so we thought we might be able to turn a window on the back of the house into a door.
So, my questions are:
Does anyone have experience with installing a door into a house with vinyl siding? Is it difficult? What kind of costs can we expect?
Thanks!!

Re: installing an exterior door?
I haven't done exactly what you described, but something similar. It's totally doable and not difficult (a contractor would have to do it). They would cut through the exterior of the house (ours was brick) and install a door way.
You would also have to factor in what the level of the ground is at the back of the house and if you'd need to create steps and then a walkway/patio etc from that. Putting in a door is one thing, but then you have to have think of what's around it both inside and outside and how it changes the flow of the space
our was done as part of an overall reno job so i couldn't tell you how much it was..

Re: installing an exterior door?
Thank you for your reply! It is all flat in the back so I don't think it would need steps or anything, but definitely a good point to think about how it would change the flow. Thanks again
