Town of Hempstead - Sidewalk replacement
During Hurricane Sandy, a tree uprooted, ripping up my sidewalk in the process. The town came, removed the tree, and put down sand where the sidewalk was. I had assumed that they would be back to repair the sidewalk. I just looked at the town of Hempstead website and it stated that the home owner is responsible for this. Anyone know of how I can go about doing this and approximately how much it is? The website didn't even have a number to call!

If you are responsible then you just call a masonry person.

The town won't do the repair. You have to contact a company to do the cement work.

Re: Town of Hempstead - Sidewalk replacement
I just read an article recently in newsday about rules/regulations for different towns.. in TOH it said that it is the homeowner's responsibility for sidewalk repair. You can either hire one yourself, or if you call the town they will hire someone to do it but will charge your tax bill.
ETA according to the article they said its approx $175 per section of sidewalk but I guess that could vary based on who you call.
