questions to ask pediatricians

My doctor told me I was supposed to be looking into finding a pediatrician. I have found one close to my home so I am going to be scheduling a meeting with him I guess to go over important factors. What questions should I be asking???

Sick area separate from well visit?
Any issues during the evening what number to call?
Shot schedule?
Will the dr be comin to the hospital when u give birth?

I never met with my dd's dr so im assuming these questions would help u. I believe i gave the nurses at the hospital my pediatrician's office number n they called for me. Hope these help a bit

Caveat: DD's ped is a family friend and my mom is a ped so I technically never asked these questions, but I would if I didn't know any peds

What are there hours, Sat morning appts too?

How far do they normally schedule out (not sick calls but for any other issues)

Who covers for them (on call)

What is their philosophy on vaccinations, BFing/formula, when to start solids, when to be off a bottle, any other 'debated' topic...and when you hear their opinion, does it align with yours? If not, are they flexible?

Are they familiar with issues like speech, PT OT etc that they could help you in deciding if your kid needs an evaluation or not.

Overall do you get a good vibe, do you feel comfortable that YOU are getting your questions answered and they are spending time with you etc. I thought I had some more but I have preggo brain

I just did this yesterday. Thebump.com has some GREAT questions besides the ones above. Also ask what hospital he/she is affiliated with and can you get a same day sick visit? What is the schedule for well visits? The big thing for me was I didn't want a doctor who was going to tell me how to raise our son but wanted someone who would give me all the information so I could make an informative decision. And I didn't want to feel pressure if I ended up not BFing but wanted support. Our doctor we choose yesterday was EXACTLY on the money! He said he will give me the information and some advice on both sides and we'll make the decision together. I HATE when doctors push their views on me so this was HUGE for me!!
