immune issues - testing
after 6 failed IUIs (one was a chemical), 2 failed IVF, i'm begining to wonder if my dx of "unexplained" is real....something i plan on speaking to my RE about when I meet with him next time...
i have seen a couple of posts about having immune issues...quick question, is this something that my RE would have tested for in that first round of blood work that i did when they test for a million different things? just wondering...

most re's dont "believe" in immune related issues, even though they are very real. The only docs, I believe, that test for these issues are tortoriello at sirm and braverman in woodbury.

I would like to know more about this too.
I got pregnant off of my first iui but no heartbeat at 6 weeks because of subchronic hematoma.

A really GOOD ob/gyn will know a lot obout immune issues and likely refer you to a specialist. I used Dr. Pillitterri - Deer Park as ob/gyn. I saw Dr. Elkady in West Islip who is a high risk fetal medicine doc. She did all my immune testing and revealed thrombophilia issues that prevent implantation....definitely get it checked out before proceeding. It is very real and can make all the difference despite the RE technology.

How long did all the testing take for you? I have an appointment set with Dr. Pillitterri for next Monday and I was just curious as to how long all the testing takes.

Oh great! Once he refers you, call the specialists office and get your name on their radar. Dr. Elkadys office wanted all the paperwork from Pillitterri first before booking an appt. I saw her 3 weeks after Pillitterri's office. The specialist will write scripts for bloodwork - go asap and results are in 2-3 weeks after. you also have to do day 3 bloodwork for the specialist so obviously that has to time with her period. One tip: You need to stay on top of Pillitterris front desk people - checking to ensure things are faxed, clarified, etc. I find them to be very disorganized and unclear so keep pushing when you need to. He is a fantastic doctor and I will put up the craziness to see him. Also, bring snacks b/c you may have a long wait....He will take his time with you when you are in with him and go over everything.

Do you think it will be a problem that we decided to go through with another cycle during this time? I just started the bc pill yesterday. I am afraid to let any time lapse, b/c time is of the essence for us.
