mowing the lawn, or paying landscaper?

got a quote for $30 a week to mow the lawn

who else pays to have the lawn mowed, who just does it themselves?

it's over $800 by the time it's all said and done and I'm wondering if it's worth it

mowing the lawn, or paying landscaper?

We paid $20 for some guy to mow the lawn every 10 days or so. It wasn't a landscaper but some guy just out to make some extra money after work and on weekends. We did that until my SIL gave us her lawn mower after she hired landscapers and now DH just does it.

Last year (our 1st year in our house) we paid $30 for someone to mow. I recently mentioned to DH that since he is reitred, I think that's crazy and we should get a lawnmower. He went and bought one a couple of days later. Chat Icon I think he paid about $400. Although if he was working FT, I would probably want to keep the service.

mowing the lawn, or paying landscaper?

This is our first year in the house. We bought a lawnmower for $199. By the time you factpr in shrubs and other plantings, there is hardly anything to mow. I told DH no way am I paying someone else to do it. It takes him less than an hour to do ALL the mowing

We called around to get quotes to have someone do it as well, since DH used to do the lawn on a day off, and didn't know if he'd have time now that we have DS (and he would spend his off days watching him). We also got quotes at $30 a week. We have a corner lot but we also have a full backyard, so there is a lot of grass to mow. DH does the lawn and I think it takes him 2 hours to mow, weed wack, then clean the grass clippings. We decided to see how it goes for now with DH mowing on Saturdays when he gets home from work (and I can watch DS) and if he can't handle it, then we will look to hire someone, since it is a good chunk of change. If you don't have a lot of grass to mow then it may be worth it just to do it yourself.

My DH does it. We have received prices for $25-30. DH still wants to do it.

My hubby was doing it himslef until the lawnmower died. Now he is happily paying the landscaper, and I think it is $30 a week.

DH has bad allergies so it would be me doing it, if anything. I did it for a bit and realized it's not how I want to spend my weekend after working all week (and cleaning, cooking, running errands, etc). I consider it $35 a week for my time back.

Our property is 50x100. I refuse to pay someone to mow the lawn when DH is more then capable of doing it himself. He has some OCD tendencies so it takes him about 2 hours to do it lol.

If he really refused I would just do it myself.

We take this approach - It's a luxury, but one we can afford. And in our view, the money is well-spent to get more family and relaxation time on the weekend. My DH commutes and works long hours during the week, and I usually work part of every weekend, so we like to spend time together as a family as much as we can on the weekends. I would hate for DH to miss DS's t-ball or soccer or not want to hang out at the park or do something with friends because he had to mow the lawn. (Same for me!).

We do like to garden - plant flowers, herbs, and vegetables - well, actually, DH does most of it! But for him, that's a relaxing hobby and not a chore.

Landscapers. We are ridiculously busy with every free second we get, every hour we can get help with is so worth it. Plus Sandy destroyed all of our landscaping equipment.

Landscapers are expensive and i have had 3 of them since 2005. I have never been completely satisfied with the job they did. Last yr i cut the lawn and did all the chemicals myslf. I actually liked it. This yr i found someone to cut the lawn for $20 a wk. Everyone else wants $35. Aftrr one cut i ffound out why he was so cheap, so now im going to do it myself.

We do it ourselves. Mowing, Yard Clean up and Gardening. And we have just a little under an acre.

Chat Icon

We do it to save money but we also enjoy doing yardwork too. I guess it's more rewarding that way; I can't really explain it.

Everyone has their preference.

We have landscapers for maintenance ($45 for 1 acre) and cleanups.

It's just not cost effective for us to do that labor. We're better off putting out time into our other projects where the labor would be much more costly.

And as others stated, we just don't have the time.

Dh did it last year but between work and school it got to be too much. We were trying to save money but it just turned into a big headache so we are back to a landscaper again.

$25 a week is money well spent for us. They do all the mowing as well as edging, trimming hedges and bushes. They clean up our flower beds in the front and back and I couldn't be happier. My DH doesn't have to waste time on his days off, I don't have to nag him to get it done and our yard looks great.

Dh does it. there is a shop in malverne that refurbishes mowers and so for $200 or even less you can get a good mower. might last you a few years. We stopped paying landscapers about 2 years ago and it's easy enough that my husband actually enjoys it.

We pay $40 every two weeks. Our property is not level and though it's not a large lot (1/4 acre) it's still a challenge. The landscapers do a great job in 30 minutes (cutting grass and trimming edges) which would take DH hours. It's worth it for us.

dh does it and loves it-and we have 1/3 of an acre...then again, he got himself a tractor mower from sears when we bought our house so the 1/3 of an acre takes him all of like an hour from start to finish including edge work and such.
