Complicated thoughts about CVS test scheduled for Wed

I having very conflicted feelings/thoughts about the CVS I have scheduled for Wed.
It is scheduled with Dr Bergman at Madonna Perinatal.
I have not met him and do not yet know his individual risk rating with this procedure

We had the Maternit21 test on Thursday. We do not have results back yet. IF we get them before the procedure an they are negative we will not be getting the CVS

I think my fears are coming from the increased risk with this procedure. I don't know what to do and what is the best thing for this baby. I don't care about me and what I will go through with the cvS and I take the pain/uncomfortableness etc. I'm scared of the risk to this baby.

Has anyone had one ??? And was it abdominal or cervical?

I have no experience with the test. Can you reschedule the cvs if your maternity21 results are not back yet? Since if its neg you don't want to do the cvs. I waited for the maternity21 results (and another doc app) before determining whether or not to do further testing. Good luck Chat Icon

Oh I see, I will keep my fingers crossed for you that your maternity21 test results come back neg before then. I guess all of this ultimately comes down to how severe the situation could possibly be and what (if any) decision you and SO would make once you have the results from the cvs. Is it going to drive you more crazy knowing or not knowing.

I had the CVS and it was abdominal. I was explained that the risk was something like 1%, whereas with an amnio (done later in a pregnancy) was like 0.5%. My numbers may be off, but that's what it amounted to.

In any case, they use sono the whole time while they are extracting the sample.

I think the risk is fairly small. I did maternity 21 and they said it always takes over a week to come back, closer to 9 days plus but I don't know if they rushed yours. I have several friends who did CVS, all abdominal, and they were all fine. I am personally freaked out by the test but for no rational reason and I am sure you will fine. It sucks to have an added worry on top of worry. .

I had a CVS at 11 weeks abdominal... and I am 20 weeks now... and baby is fine! It literally took like 45 seconds for the actaul needle part of the test, the rest of it is sono and prep... But... I will warn you it did hurt like a ***** for those 45 secs. but after it was done, I felt nothing.

I know its really stressful, but do the test, it will give you definite results.

Good Luck, and Praying for you!

I had a CVS test done by Dr. Bergman at Madonna. It was done thru my cervix - Definitely uncomfortable and nerve wracking. I had cramps and spotting for a couple of days after, but thankfully everything was fine. My little girl is about to turn 10 months old.

It is scary, but hang in there. I will be praying for you.
