VBAC...anyone?

Feeling very torn here...
My labor and delivery with my DD (now 3) was difficult. I was induced and after 2 and a half hours of pushing, I had a c-section.

This time around I told my doctor I want a VBAC. He was adamant and told me that it wasn't a good idea and my risk of uterine rupture is HUGE. He also said if I had a c-section due to high blood pressure or the cord being wrapped around the baby's neck, it would be a different scenario. However, because I pushed for so long with no progress, the odds are high that would happen again. Also, since then my uterus has thinned out because it has been so long and I am now 3 years older, uterine rupture is likely which may lead to CP in the baby.
He said if I choose to do a VBAC, he will not be my doctor and it will be hard to find a doctor willing to do this given my situation.

I am wondering if this is an insurance thing, and he is saying this to protect himself??
Has anyone else's doctor said this to them?
Has anyone had a VBAC after pushing for a long time with a prior birth?

I have never heard of your uterus thinning out because of time. That doesn't make any sense to me.

Did you fully dilate? Was she a failure to descend?

Have you looked into this doctors vbac stats before? If you really want a vbac I would find a vbac friendly doctor, who will look at your records and give you an honest opinion, also do a ton of research on your own so you can go in prepared, and have a list of questions.

Be your own advocate. Don't feel pressured to have a c-section, talk to other doctors and midwives.

I am going for a vbac but had a different experience the first time around (emergency c/s for a cord prolapse). This time I switched to a practice that is more vbac friendly...how do I know they are vbac friendly? Not just at their word but because I know of MANY people who had vbacs there, how I've been treated there AND talking to local people in my local ICAN group.

Personally, you have to do what you are comfortable with. That being said, I strongly recommend you doing some more research, like contacting other OBs with your records and asking for their opinion. I'd also ask your local ICAN chapter to see if there are doulas or midwives there that can give you their opinion AND recommend an OB who is more open to do a vbac. Yes there are good reasons not to do vbacs but there are too many unnecessary c-sections as well...I would do some more 'homework' before limiting your options

All I know is I tried my hardest and nothing was working! ;)

Although I love him, he doesn't seen VBAC friendly.
I was thinking of making an appointment with Stony Brook Midwives...

I think a lot of doctors are anti-VBAC for no real reasons. I think he's just trying to scare you into accepting this, which is sad. So many first time Moms get induced and then end up with a C-section for no real reason. I'd maybe get a second opinion, with a doctor who is VBAC friendly to make sure that this is a legit reason.

I don't know. It sounds like you and I had almost the same delivery. . I was induced, took a long time to get ready when I did dilate I pushed for almost three hours with little progress (supposedly to do with large head size but who knows) and ended up with a c-section.

My dr fully supports my trying for a vbac and we joke that she told me in the recovery room she double stitched my abdomen so I could try for vbac next time. She has not mentioned any extra risks. . our only joint concern is that I not go through both labor and c-section again bc the recovery was such a b-tch!

I would def get another opinion.
