Im cracking.

If I go to a reputable place (A&S bagels) and get a turkey sandwich and they heat it up in the microwave is it ok to eat?

I've eaten non heated up cold cuts my entire pregnancy. Dr said as long as its from a clean reputable place there was no reason to worry about listeria but my dr is very eat what you want as long as its from a clean place.

Even a cold turkey sandwich is fine. I ate them all during my pg.

My dr even said it was fine. It's the new fad thing to avoid.

I think if you get Boars head (which a lot of those Bagel places and delis use) that's your best bet. They are all natural and no fillers.

Mine said the same thing. I don't eat them everyday, but I've had cold cuts about a half-dozen times so far.

Re: Turkey sandwich

My doctor said the same like other people have said - that as long as it's from a reputable place, it's totally fine. That said, he said not to eat a turkey sandwich everyday, but in moderation is fine.

As far as what I'm doing? I KNOW that if something were to happen, it would not be because of a turkey sandwich. I beat crazy odds to even get to this place that I know my luck won't be damned by a cold cut sandwich. However- I'm also that person who had 2nd trimester complications a few years back that most doctors have never seen before, especially in a first pregnancy. I've come into the .0001-2% category more times than I care to think about. I will be that person who goes outside and gets struck by lightening not once.... not twice... but five times. For that reason, I have no had a turkey sandwich (yet) this pregnancy Chat Icon but I'm also not a big cold cut fan to begin with.

Re: Turkey sandwich

I just wanna add that I keep forgetting what I'm not supposed to eat (hello soft cheese) and then freaking out and calling places later to make sure it was pasteurized or whatnot. My doctor literally said the only thing I could NEVER have is sushi/raw fish. Other than that, everything in moderation. She ALSO said that in almost 20 years of practice she has never seen a case of listeria.

This is exactly why I won't risk it. Because I've had doctors who haven't seen ANY case of what I had in their entire careers, let alone the most severe form! Chat Icon Chat Icon
