Re: I'm being a total tool and having a mini-panic attack....
this is exactly how I feel I opened my registry but I am nowhere near finished and I still have no clue what to register for. I guess is a good idea to start as soon as you can

I'm actually probably not registering....there are lots of Jewish superstitions around pregnancy and stuff, and I likely won't be having a shower. The 'big' ticket items are typically purchased by family members and then random friends etc. will send small gifts, and we'll get the rest ourselves over time.
I actually won't have any baby stuff in our home prior to birth. We will order/buy things and leave at my ILs. Poor DH and/or his dad and brother will be setting up the nursery while I'm in the hospital

Well at least you will be having the big items which are the most important. Try not to panic and just do your research and see what goes more with your lifestyle in terms of stroller, car seat etc

I'm being a total tool and having a mini-panic attack....
Meredith BREATHE!!!! Calm down! Do you have the Baby Bargins book? Do you want it? You can have mine. Seriously, I skimmed the Baby Bargins book, checked Consumer Reports, and then looked at Amazon reviews for each item and whatever I could find on LIF. When we went to register I forgot all my pieces of paper so I just registered for things like blankets and things that don't need to be researched. Then when I came home, I sat in front of the computer for DAYS make finalized touches on the registry and adding and deleting as I did my research.
Also, if you register at Buy Buy Baby you can have a consultant walk around with you and help you. We didn't know about this otherwise we would have done it. I took my SIL to Target when I registered there and it was SO much easier. She just handed me things and told me to scan them! HAHA!
There are a lot of things but everyone is here to help you in any way we can. I HIGHLY recommend the Baby Bargins book though. It really helped me narrow things down and then with the Amazon reviews on hearing it from actual woman.
O! I also stalk other people's registries to see what they have and if I should copy them LOL! You are more then welcome to look at mine.
EDIT: Just saw that you are following the Jewish traditions. First, I commend you on that! Takes true will power to follow through with that so AWESOME for you guys. Second, just a thought...make a fake registry under a fake name, just to have an idea of what you will need after baby is born and then you can just shop from there. Might be easier on you and DH.

I agree with getting the baby bargins book. I have it for the ipad and it's a easy/informative read which allows you to skip around categories.

We met with a personal shopper at BBB, listened to what they had to say and then chose items based on their specific characteristics and our needs.

I swear these hormones are CRAZY! I mean, I've always been weird (hello, remember me rubbing your belly like the second time we met?) but never THIS insane!
Imagine how my poor DH feels. He gets this all the time from me. Yesterday I had a conversation with the characters from his video game.

This !!!
You do nto need the best of everything. THere are plenty of great things out there. THey are perfectly safe.
So much of the baby stuff is really about personal preference.
And just because it is the most expensive does not mean it's great or the only great thing.
We had so much stuff an honestly did not use most of it. And the stuff we did use soem we used for a week or two. Don't go crazy.

Once I read that book and used LIF, I was feeling a LOT more confident on what I need, what I don't need, what to look for etc

Agreed.
Do you really think there is one BEST stroller? One BEST car seat? Diaper bag? It is all about what is best for you. Different people have different needs, and different babies like different things. Read some reviews, go look at the products in person, and decide what works best for you.

I'll probably have moments of panic, then, too. This is my first time doing this. My family lives in another country. I don't think it's that odd to have some panicky moments, whether fleeting or longer lasting.
And if I have panic attack when the baby comes, thankfully I have a supportive DH and friends to gently and kindly remind me that I'm fine and can handle this.

I'm right there with you, I didn't panic though until yesterday when I realized i am going to be a mother next month!!! woah!! I also have family FAR away, not in another country but probably farther than your family in Canada...they are in Alaska! I have my MIL next door and to be honest, watching her freak out makes me calm down, which is nice!!!

I would like to point out that if you do not buy the best most expensive items for your baby, then your baby is destined to be a total douche. I speak from experience. Don't go over that cliff.
