Applying for STAR
We are currently in contract on a house. As far as I know the current owners did not apply for STAR. Can I apply as a new owner? How do I find out if they did apply and what the taxes are for this year?

I live in Nassau. I called the court and printed the info from the internet. I'm not sure what the deadline is...sorry!

You'll be able to see the exact taxes on mynassauproperty.com.
I filed for STAR after we closed and got our deed. You have to wait till you have the deed. The paperwork is available on the county's website.

for suffolk you have to call the town. and to apply its only i think from jan-march. at least for the town of babylon

Thanks! We're in Nassau. I think the deadline for exisitng owners has passed, as a new owner can I still apply?

The deadline is passed, you can't apply agai until November. My attorney made me put it on the calendar hah. The deadline is in March

The above is for Suffolk County.
The deadline in Nassau County is December 31. You can apply as soon as you have your recorded deed and proof of residency (i.e., driver's license, registration, etc.). You can download the form right on Nassau's website.
