playdate question

what do you do if another kid takes your dc's toy while they're playing with it? age range is 12-14 months. TIA!

At that age, as the parent of the kid who had the toy taken - nothing, I would just give my DC another toy to play with since they are easily redirected at that age.

If I was the parent of the kid who took the toy, I certainly wouldn't scold my child since they are so young and don't yet understand sharing, BUT I would take the toy from my child and give it back to the child who was playing with it. I would give the simple explanation, which may fall on deaf ears now, but it will eventually click, "we don't take, we share, so and so was playing with that."

At that age, I wouldn't do anything.

DS#2 is now 2yo. It is a tough age and hard to share. I usually do playdates more for his older brother. the older kids are usually more giving.

at that age i just try to distract my own kid if shes upset about it, and if she doesnt care i just ignore it. if you are close with the kid/parent you can try to teach them - thats what i do with family. we just give the toy back to the original kid and then tel the "thief" that they should share or wait their turn, then distract them with something else.

from my experience all kids do that - my kid will steal another kids toy just like another kid will steal my kids toy. they just dont know any better at that age.

At that age nothing. i don't think they really do it on purpose. DS is 15 months and he is strting to understand when we tell him not to do something.
