Which would you choose?
I've been doing some Disney dining research based on some of your suggestions. We will be two adult couples traveling with 6yr old boy, 3 yr old boy, and 11 month old girl. We are only doing Magic Kingdom for one day. I could book Crystal Palace for breakfast the day we go to MK, but my kids aren't all that into Pooh. We could do Chef Mickey for breakfast on a different day. Or I coud book a dinner at either Hoop Dee Doo or the Luau at the Polynesian. Of course the last option is to do an offsite dinner show like Medieval Times or Pirate Adventure (we've already done those before). Which would you choose and why?

Re: Which would you choose?
I have not heard great things about the luau. Hoop de do is really cute and my DD has friends who love it. Not sure if the boys would. Maybe show them a youtube video and see if they have any interest.
Chef Mickeys would probably be the best of the disney options. Crystal palace is cute we had great intereaction there, much better than chef mickeys which was always rushed.
Have you considered ohanas for dinner or whispering canyon cafe? Both would work for all ages. They do things like coconut or wooden horse races, hula lessons or hokey pokey. Whispering canyon at the WL does some funny things (go youtube some videos of both).
Sorry don't know about the offsite places.

Liked crystal palace much better than chef mickeys. And if you boom it before the park opens you get great pictures in front of the castle!

Ohana has nothing earlier then 8:40 for dinner and that just won't work. I'm not sure if Whispering Canyon would be fun for us and the reviews were mixed. DH and I are not big buffet people. We can deal with it for breakfast, but as far as lunch and dinner go, we prefer to order what we want. I'm trying so hard to do a fun Disney meal, because I know I would like it but I'm starting to think Medieval Times may still be our best bet as far as the kids are concerned. We have done it 3-4 times and they still ask for it.

The reservation would be before rope drop. That's what we did for Tuskers and I loved having pictures in front of the tree of life without a million people around.

Not sure we are talking about the same place whispering canyon is not a buffet I hate buffets skeeves me out. I try to avoid them as much as possible. Unfortunately if you want a character there is little other choice.. Whispering canyon like ohana is family style. It is an all you want platter. They bring a platter out to the table with various things, then you can ask for more of what you like. Sort of like Ohana, apps, sides shared family style, but then they bring skewers of meats and shrimp to your table.
If you don't want buffet skip almost all the character meals. The only non buffet character places are akershus and CRT (princesses) or garden grill (mickey, chip and dale family style).
