Babymoon locations
First question, when should I go? I'm due the 1st week in Sept. and am thinking about going mid July. Is that too late?
Also, any suggestions on somewhere local (3 hrs driving) that's not going to cost an arm and a leg? I was looking into newport but I think it's going to be too much $.
TIA

I would say to try Cape Cod, but that can be $$ too. The Poconos has a lot of nice romantic places. Try Hawley PA, the Settlers Inn or The Ledges (go on their site, they have year round specials!). Or we're going to Milford PA to the Hotel Fauchere for 2 nights in late May (it's a little $$ but I got a deal on snique away).
oh and I wanted to add the very latest I'd go would probably be early July if I were you. When we go to PA I'll be around 29 weeks, I didn't want to go much later than that in case it's hot and I'm uncomfortable.

Cape May, NJ isn't too expensive and there are a lot of cute shops and restaurants plus the beach. (and its not like your typical Jersey shore town with a bunch of drunk 20 year olds everywhere) Or Boston might be nice that time of year if you're looking for something more city. Block Island is also really fun and you can probably find hotels or bed and breakfasts that aren't too expensive (compared to prices of Montauk and the Hamptons)

Mid July might be a little late to travel if you are due the first week in September. I would talk to your dr. I was told not to travel after 30w. Cape cod is great as a pp said. What about Mystic CT or the Hamptons?

Re: Babymoon locations
We went to Cape Cod for our Babymoon. It was a lot of fun, I was about 6 months pregnant when we went.

Personally I wouldn't travel too far passed 30w. If you are going somewhere semi-local and know where the nearest hospitals are than i suppose the risk is up to you.
I like the idea of Newport and if you are willing to compromise you can find a hotel not in the main area that is affordable. I'm sure many places are booked for the summer by now or will be soon though.
Mystic and the cape are always relaxing options. What about a stay-cation? What about Danfords in Port Jeff? It's pricey but you would be saving $ on gas and tolls so maybe worth it. Maybe splurge on a nice hotel room in the city or in an area on LI you've never been and go to nice restaurants? Shelter island sounds nice too. Hmm now you've got me thinking I want a baby moon too!
