2nd Baby Shower?
A friend of mine is pregnant with her 2nd child. Her first is 3.5yrs old little girl. She had her two weeks early on the day of her baby shower. The next day she had all her family and friends come to the hospital and gave her the shower there. She's now pregnant with her 2nd child a boy and is planning another shower. Not a sprinkle a full blown shower 60+ people. All who were invited to her first. Is it normal to have a 2nd shower? I know sprinkles are common and on the small side. A friend of ours is very against her having a 2nd shower and is saying she won't go the mom to be has come out and said she wants a shower just for gifts. How do you feel about all this? Thoughts? I'm not sure how I feel.....

That's just cray cray. And rude. And crass. I wouldn't go either.
I would bring a gift for the baby when I visit them in the hospital.

2nd Baby Shower?
As someone who missed their shower due to a hospital stay I am torn.
For #2 (when the time comes) I kinda want a shower but not for the gifts. Just to have eveyone together. We have everything from #1 and can afford to buy whatever #2 needs.
SO I get wanting to have a shower but to say I want it just for the gifts is a bit much.

Re: 2nd Baby Shower?
In my family every pregnancy is celebrated with a shower. Might be a hispanic thing. I didn't even know it was a big NO NO until I came on this site.

Re: 2nd Baby Shower?
A full blown shower with the sole purpose being to get gifts? No, I would not go. I would get a few cute outfits/blankets/etc and bring them to the hospital when she gives birth like I would do for any new baby.

Re: 2nd Baby Shower?
In many cases, it costs more to throw the shower than to just buy the items yourself (remember there are lots of useless gifts and people who will give stingy gifts).
Sounds like she was cheated out of an experience for her first shower.
What do you care what other people say? If you are close with her, go.

me three!
I dont understand why people would take personal offense to others celebrating an event. Especially given the circumstances! Some people are cheap and petty-and I find that rude!
I missed my shower and was in the hospital. I missed out and i was soo into it, the party planning aspect. I deff would love to have a sprinkle (when I preggers again). But if it turns into a full blown "shower" then its because I want people accommodated and maybe in a nice place..and yes it would be spending extra money for the event out of my own pocket.
In terms of gifts...she prob already has lots of items ...it should always be the thought that counts!!!

Re: 2nd Baby Shower?
The shower itself doesn't bother me, but her saying that she wants it for gifts would bother me...I am having my third baby in July and I wanted a reason to celebrate, so we are having a gender reveal party for all of our friends and family...I specified no gifts because its not about that for us...we have everything we need, we just wanted to celebrate this baby!

You don't have a shower just for the gifts so that's a tad bit selfish of her to say that. My soon to be 16 yr old and my stepmom wanted to throw me a sprinkle but DH and I just decided not to. I am of Afro-Puerto Rican and in Puerto Rican culture every baby is celebrated.

Re: 2nd Baby Shower?
Isn't the main point of most people having showers for everything is for gifts???
I mean, engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, wedding, baby shower...etc.
I feel it you want one go ahead and have one, and whomever comes let them come and celebrate with you.
Me personally, i'm not a fan of showers, bridal, baby etc. I didn't really want them for myself, but had them and smiled through it for everyone else.
And as for going to a baby shower, sprinkle whatever you want to call it. If you want to celebrate the baby, who cares if it's number 1 or number 6. It's supposed to be a celebration for the baby.

2nd Baby Shower?
There are a lot of mixed opinions about this and you're sure to get them all on this site. Honestly, I think you should get 1 shower. If a person choose to celebrate the other babies, it's her choice, but she should not send out registry information (I don't care whether the person chooses to register or not) or expect gifts.
If I were invited to a shower or sprinkle for a second/third/forth time mommy -- I would bring something small if I went at all. I just think so many people throw them expecting more gifts and I think it's rude.

Re: 2nd Baby Shower?
Since she missed her first shower, I think it is ok for her to get a second shower. Her response to having a shower gifts is rude. plus it is her 2nd so she probably still has a lot of the gear. i had 2 boys so i really didn't need anything but even if i had a girl, i don't think i would have needed any gear, just girly clothes.
I do agree it is often more expensive to throw an event compared to the gifts you receive whether it be a wedding, birthday party or baby shower.
eta: I think it is rude to say she wants any event just for gifts whether it be her 1st wedding, 1st baby shower, birthday party, etc.

Re: 2nd Baby Shower?
I file this under women are petty. Why would her friends be offended that she is having a second shower? Are they jealous? As long as she is not asking them to pay for it, I don't see what the big deal is.
