did you lock in oil?

I'm about to start an oil contract. They offered a lock-in rate for one year at 3.84 a gallon.

Did you lock in your rate or do you go based on daily rate? Also are you on a budget plan or pay as it comes?

I lock in the fall. No use locking in now since I barely use any oil in the spring summer fall

Re: did you lock in oil?

We locked in at 3.70 a gallon. This was fairly recently. We are on a payment plan of $200 monthly.

Re: did you lock in oil?

We locked in at $3.96 in October and we're set up with balanced billing.

I regret locking in so quickly but our tank was empty and I let Petro's rep pressure me into a contract - I was afraid prices would go higher.

My sister does COD and has for years. She likes it much better and says she saves money this way. We will be doing that next year.

I meant balanced billing... same payment every month so we're not stuck with a high bill every time we get filled up.

Yeah that would not fly with me! It means we pay for oil in the summer when we're not using it but I'd never be able to swing the full amount of a fill up.

By not locking in, you take a chance. Period.

This year, it looks like people are getting a cheeper rate than I have. I locked in in September at 3.89. Seems a lot of COD is a little cheeper. Seems that others are getting slightly better rates.

If you dont lock in and gas prices soar, you will be crewed. So for me, It was worth the peace of mind knowing if something goes REALLY bad, I wont suffer on oil prices. It only takes on bad hurricane in the gulf.

Because of the "what if" I personally would not risk it.

We are waiting to lock in. We are trying cod right now. Slomins seems the cheapest for lockins for new customers but we just got rid of them bc they jack up the rate after the lock in expires so we have to wait till next year to become a "new" customer again.

All oil companies do that. I'm still looking for a decent rate.

did you lock in oil?

I just signed up for an oil contract. I locked in the rate of $3.80/gallon for 1300 gallons. The contract ends when I use the total amount of oil or at the end of 12 months which ever comes first. I did not take a budget plan--I did not know this was an option.

COD.

I don't want to pay a higher price per gallon just so I can pay every month instead of a few times a year. If having a huge outlay of money a few times a year bothered me, I would put aside a few hundred dollars a month making my own balanced billing plan, and not paying extra money per gallon for them to hold my money.

We haven't had COD price higher than what we locked in at (years prior.)

Last time we got a fill-up, we paid 50 cents less per gallon than locking in that day; since we get 250 gallons, we saved 125 dollars.

We are guessing in the end it will all even out. Some times you make out by locking in, some times you get screwed.

How is going COD going to save you money in this case? You only pay for what you use and if you are getting large oil deliveries every three weeks you are using a lot of oil.

I'm going to wait until spring to see how the prices are. Nov is a bad time to lock bc the prices are higher already. I just hate oil and would be willing to sell this house for one with gas at this point. We use a lot of oil, small kids so we have to keep the house very warm

Re: did you lock in oil?

Oil prices being "higher in the fall" I think is highly overexaggerated. There are far too many factors that determine the price of oil besides what month it is.
