Cruise out of NY

If you have done it, was it ever rough waters? If you can share your experiance.

We are thinking about booking Norwegian Breakaway to Bermuda which looks AMAZING!!

Only cruised 1 time about 8 years ago out of Puerto Rico and did not have a great experiance. Have a 2 1/2 year old now, so trying to plan a vaca.

Appreciate any advice.

We took Holland America out of NY to Bermuda. I did not find the water any choppier than a cruise from Florida. I took Dramamine. When we got back to NY it took me a day or two to stop swaying but nothing terrible. I loved leaving out of NY!

Cruise out of NY

We sailed out of NY 2 years ago to the Caribbean and I thought it was kinda choppy the first day down and I did feel a bit queasy, which never happens to me. However, there was a hurricane in the area the week before so that could be the reason for the choppiness.

I'm going on the Breakaway to Bermuda in August!

I've taken the cruise out of NY about seven times and I've never had an issue with rough water. We usually go in May. We did have one cruise that had rougher waters but that was actually closer to Florida/Nassau. It was a bad storm we were going around and EVERYONE was sick. Chat Icon But nothing rough near NY.

Re: Cruise out of NY

We just got back on March 10th from a cruise on the Norwegian Jewel ..... and coming home we had 18-20 foot seas.. ( from that Noreaster that hit NY ) THANK GOD I grew up on boats and didn't get sea sick, however more than 3/4 of the boat had barf bags in their hands the whole last 2 days... I don;'t think I will ever do a cruise out of NY again in the colder months. Just because you loose so much time in the warmer weather.. My STBDh and I are huge beach and warm weather people and just wanted the sun!!!

Re: Cruise out of NY

We have been on a couple of cruises and out of the 21 days of ships we only had 1 day with rough waters to the point I did get sick. Keep hair ties or acupressure ties on your wrists, and some ginger cookies to help avoid sea sickness. Also try to stay in the middle of the ship as you will feel less rocking that way.

Re: Cruise out of NY

I sailed twice from NY... First time was to Bermuda on a small ship and yes the waters were rough crossing the Atlantic... I don't think you'll have much of an issue with the breakaway though. The second cruise was down to the Caribbean and it wasn't nearly as bad... Both were at the end of may

i sailed out of ny on the crown princess and let me tell you I loved it! I hate sailing out of florida I just feel like a cattle being herded. It was not crowded at all and very relaxed. The choppiness didnt bother me but I always put the patch behind my ear when cruising so I dont risk it...but I loved the days at sea were we just ate soaked up the sun and played bingo all day lol!

Re: Cruise out of NY

I have done 3 Bermuda cruises out of NY, and 2, 12 night cruises out of NY to Caribbean.

It can be rough especially to Bermuda, the last 12 night cruise i did was a little rough too,

I highly recommend going to your doctor and asking for a script for transdermscope

It is a patch that you wear behind your ear for 3 days that prevents nausea, this past december we did a cruise out of Miami and it was really rough and I was so glad I had it.
