I would only buy underwear to go home in. Wear the mesh underwear they give you if they do. I stayed in them the whole time! You are bleeding so much there is no point in wearing your own until you leave.
I packed so much and was in the gown half the time. I only put on a pair of large pajama pants and tank tops for nursing.

I always wore thongs too so I went out and got a pack of Hanes or fruit of the loom Granny panties (didn't want to spend a ton on something ill never wear again that may get blood on them). I washed them a d hated them...so uncomfortable but I packed them anyway. I wore the mesh undies the hospital provided and took a ton him bc they were easy and comfie. Shortly after i got home i ended up buying undies from destination maternity (hipster cut) and like them

thanks for all the responses ladies! one more question. what kind of undies did you bring to wear? im still wearing my prepregnancy thongs so i havent bought any type of new undies for now. but i know im going to need different ones for after. whats your favs?
Get big grannie panties lol like huge! The last thing you want is tight bikini underwear and the last thing you feel is sexy... and get the oldschool huge thick pads. Youll need those for at least a week when your home.
In the hosp i just wore the underwear the hosp gave me along with the pads they gave me. You are bleeding very heavily and are very uncomfortable.

I brought/am bringing a couple pairs of my oldest underwear that I won't feel bad about tossing. They are my pre-pg size but they have the lace waistband so are not constricting. I've been wearing the same style throughout my pregnancies because they're comfy.

But I was told I needed to bring something high waisted in case I wound up with a C Section so it would not touch the incision area.
And even though I didn't have a C- I liked that I didn't have to worry about ruining my panties with all the bleeding etc.
Fugly, comfy, and disposable!
ETA- my hosptial nevered offered me the mesh undies that everyone is talking about...

I wore the hospital gown most of the time. I ended up changing into a maternity nursing nightgown after 2 days. I wore their big gauze underwear (I had a c-section). Make sure you have at least one pair of huge granny panties in case you get a c-section.

Buy a pack of the cheapest underwear you can find, like 2 sizes bigger than your normal size. I didn't have a C section, but was very swollen after delivery (I was induced), and was glad I had comfy underwear that I didn't feel bad about possibly ruining. My hospital did not provide mesh underwear.

I bout those granny panties from target. The soft cotton, but just wound up wearing the hospital underwear. I had a csection. Lots of bleading so easier to us theirs and then I just threw them away. I also used their pads.

I bought a large size of briefs at Target. BUT - I LOVED the mesh ones at the hospital. I even took a ton of them home and wore them at home for a while.

This is a good idea! No need to waste more than a $1 on the grannie underwear! My dh was sent to cvs by my nurse because apparently regular (non thong underwear) are not considered grannie, lol.
