Spin-off: If you hate your house
Anyone here HAPPY they have a smaller space, a condo, or whatever XYZ reason people tend to complain about their home?
I also get the wanting to sell thing, but I seem to know so many people, whether IRL or on here, that buy, and after maybe only TWO-THREE years are looking to sell.
I get that circumstances change and we often need more space, but it seems more like the norm nowadays vs. staying put.
Just curious :).

Spin-off: If you hate your house
We moved from a 2br apt to a 2br house and DH talks about wanting to move so we have a3BR. I want to stay, we have a TON of living space here, and we can complete the dormer to add a 3rd BR upstairs (our entire downstairs is opened up and there is a 12' extension on the kitchen). However, I miss the organization I was forced to have in the smaller space. My kitchen has twice as many cabinets now, but is no where near as organized. I once lived in an apartment that was 350sq ft by myself, it was fantastic. I was super organized, it was always clean........

Re: Spin-off: If you hate your house
we are in a transition- we are about to have our 2nd baby in a 700 sq foot 2 bedroom coop. I love everything about our coop- the location, proximity to our friends/family/highway and the amentities we have- just not sure we'll be as comfie as we are now as a family of 4.

Spin-off: If you hate your house
I'm happy with our house. The older I get, the less interested I am in a large home and the time it would require. I'm becoming more interested in simplicity and am trying to get rid of a lot. Our house is 1500 square feet, which would be considered tiny by many, but the layout and having a vaulted ceiling in our family room makes it seem more spacious. We also have a formal living room we seldom use, so it's hard to justify needing more space. If we ever find we have a lot of extra money, I'd rather get a vacation cabin than a new house.

Re: Spin-off: If you hate your house
Before I met DH, I had a 1 br co-op that I loved. After we got married (in 2011), we bought a 4 br, 2 1/2 bath house. There are things about the house that I love, but not when it come to cleaning! Also, everytime something goes wrong with the house, I think to myself (and sometimes say to DH), "why didn't we just buy a townhouse, or something without so much maintenance!"

I also feel like we (hopefully) will be paid off on our house and be able to focus on things like travelling and such by the time we are ready to retire.
I know plenty of people who bought the big houses or in certain areas of Nassau who took out 2 mortgages.

Re: Spin-off: If you hate your house
I don't really like my house, but I felt a little rushed (I was 8 months pregnant and we were living with my parents who were driving me crazy and all of our stuff was in storage after moving back from CA)
Our plan was to sell in 5 years (it's been 8). While we are busting since the third child, I love that we can live here on one salary eve though we both work FT. it's going to be hard to get DH to agree to more.

Re: Spin-off: If you hate your house
We just purchased a small-ish 3 bedroom/2 bath home. I say small-ish because nowadays it feels like all of our friends have much larger homes. But the reality is that DH and I (and our parents for that matter) both grew up in smaller homes than we're in now and were fine.
This was originally our starter house, with plans to upgrade in a few years. But honestly, we bought at the bottom of the market for a great price so we have a low mortgage, aren't overwhelmed with too much house to maintain, and are in a school district we are happy with. So I am happy with our little home and could see us here for good if that's where time takes us. It will give us a lot more freedom which is what we want. As long as we have enough room for the size family we hope to have, we are good.
