Are you having parents/family stay with you a few days when you come home from the hospital? Anyone not want it?

Yea I wouldn't want my mom staying with my but I'd be fine with her coming for a few hours and then going home. That's what she'd probably do anyway.

My mom lives 10 min away so I don't see her staying over unless I asked her to. This is my first and have no problem having my mom help out more the first few days so I can sleep and recover. If that means her sleeping over so be it.

I look at it this way, if I can't take care of myself those first few days then how would I be any good to someone else.

I don't see MIL staying over which is fine.

No, I have DH that's enough! My in-laws and parents live very close so there is no need to sleep here. I don't like people in my space for too long...plus I know I will want to lounge around all scrubby and I don't want to feel uncomfortable (if it is MIL). They will both come a few days to help and take dc #1 out for a few hours.

No one stayed with us for either child.

My oldest was in the nicu for 5 weeks, but even after she came home no one stayed. With both girls we had plenty of help, but no one stayed overnight.

The stress of a newborn is nothing compared to living with my mom or mil for a week.

Thanks for all your input! I will politely tell her that I appreciate the offer and will let her know if I feel she needs to stay over (most likely not).

I would NOT like that...for my first pregnancy, my mom (who is 10mins away) stopped by and dropped off dinner/meals and some paper plates/utensils so we didn't have to do many dishes. THAT was helpful!

DH's parents stopped by for a day a week later...while that was fine, they ate all the food in the house, that was VERy annoying. They don't get it...

It was much better to not have anyone in the house, just accepted help from my mom when we needed it and the meals she gave us...plus my cousin helped with our dogs. The biggest reason was trying to be comfortable, nursing/leaking etc...I don't want to do that in front of others

I had my mom stay with me for my first DS when I came home from the hospital. I made the mistake of wanting to do EVERYTHING myself. And I got no rest. This time, she is going to stay with us again and I am taking advantage of the help with night feedings etc.

I'm a FTM so I may change my mind, but as of now I really don't want anyone staying over. I think I would just need to have some adjusting time before feeling obligated to have people over.

No.

I had guests every day after DD1 was born- it wasn't bad because I got to nap and relax a bit, plus I had major PPD so it helped to have people around.

When DD2 came home (she was in the NICU for a week) my mom came over if I asked her to, but other than that it was just me and the girls.

We were fine.

I don't think you should feel bad saying no- it's your home, your baby- you make the rules!

Im a first time mom so not sure how its going to be so Im a lil nervous and any help from my mom would be great! Im sure she will offer:) even if she doesnt stay over she will be over a lot of the time since she only lives 10 minutes away! Im ok with her helping out since she obviously knows what she's doing!: )

No way!!! People can come and visit as early as the day we get home, but please don't stay. I need my space, I want to be free to take care of myself and all the gross things I need to do without someone in my house. We are more than capable of getting up for feedings and diaper changes on our own, it gets done and we survive just fine without help.

And I'm a baby hog myself, so I like when people go home and I have the little one all to myself.

I also think it depends on the type of help they are offering.

I remember when MIL came over, she wanted me to serve HER. I'll never forget, I had both boys crying in my face for the last week, had not slept in forever, had not showered in days and she was asking me to put on a fresh pot of coffee because the one she had was cold.

Then I had my girlfriends come over, throw me $20 and DEMAND that I leave the house and get my nails done
