how do u know how much formula to feed?
DD is 5 weeks old and eats 3.5 oz every 2.5 to 3 hours. Sometimes she still seems hungry afterwards but if i wait 5 minutes, she usually settles down. Should I increase to 4 ounces. 4oz seems like alot to me for a 5 week old, but i really have no idea. How much did your 5 week olds eat?

how do u know how much formula to feed?
When DD was 5 weeks she would eat between 2-3 ozs. Are you using a slow flow nipple? It could be that sucking is comforting to her.

I can't remember what DS was drinking at 5 weeks but 3 oz or so is what I'm thinking. I was told the rule of thumb is that there should be a little formula left in the bottle when they are done. If they are sucking it dry, then up it a half oz.

I can't remember what DD ate at that time, but I've been following the basic idea of 2.5oz for every lb.

I think DS was taking in 3 oz every 2-3 hours. He didn't get up to 4oz for a bit. Sometimes he still only takes 4!

My dd is 5 weeks old this week and and takes the same amount each feeding...some feedings she wants a little more... I think it is normal and probably going through a growth spurt.

If your baby seems hungry after 3.5 ounces increase it to 4oz, especially if she's draining the bottle and still looking for more. As long as the baby isn't throwing up afterwards, you know you aren't overfeeding her. If she's hungry, feed her!
At 5 weeks, DS was eating 4-5oz and he was 9 lbs 6oz. He's just a hungry baby and the dr said it's fine.

This is what we're doing. We feed every 4 hours and alternate between 3.5 and 4oz.

DS was prob at 4-5 oz at 5 weeks, he would always drain the bottle and scream like a maniac after every feeding, I am sure it was b/c he was just soothed by the sucking b/c if I tried to give him more he would spit it up

Our ped said if they are finishing the bottle try offering more.
We were at 3 oz feedings at 5 days old and by 5 weeks I believe we were at 4-5 oz per feeding.

I don't remember. Possibly 3-4 ozs.
I would offer the 4 ozs. sometimes DC may take it, sometimes not... I'd rather waste an oz and make sure DC gets what she needs.
I've read 2-2.5 ozs per lb. for the day. So I based it off of that.
