front porch, town of islip
Thinking of adding a small front porch on our house? Anyone know if u need a permit? What if u dont attach it to the house?

I'm not sure how a porch can be added that isn't attached, but I think you need permits regardless.

You do need a permit regardless of attachment and it also has to conform to the zoning requirements... If you are too close to your property lines, you may need a variance...

yea I believe that anything that changes the structure of the house needs a permit, especially the outside. At least that's what I was told.
