Where is the best spot to sit on a plane with a loud 1 year old?
We're flying to FL with my loud, energetic, almost 1 year old DS. We're flying Southwest so we can pick our seats. Where do you think is best? I was thinking the front of the plane but someone told me the back is better. Thoughts?

I don't know where the best is, but I am flying for the first time with my dd who will be 1 in may... We chose seats near the back. But I plan on asking if there are open seats once we get to the airport and hopefully be placed by ourselves so as not to annoy others. I also skipped seats so maybe no one will chose the middle. I highly doubt that will work but ya never know!

It depends it the flight s full or not. If its a full flight, you are better off towards the front, at least you can board last and get off first. The least amount of time on the plane is best. If its a fairly empty flight, you're better off towards the back because you may have more privacy and some space to move around.

I don't think there is any spot better than the other. We tend to sit towards the back because those are usually the seats available for no extra fee. I would take seats closer to the front if they are available though - and definitely board early to get your choice and overhead space!

See, I completely disagree. I try to be one of the last to board. I want my kids on the plane as little as possible.

I definitely see what you're saying. If we had seats already selected, I would probably do this and board at the end so we spend as little time on the plane as possible. But because it's Southwest, there's no assigned seating. So I'm kind of forced to board first so I can make sure we sit where we want. Not an ideal arrangement now that we're parents.

Re: Where is the best spot to sit on a plane with a loud 1 year old?
Ugh! We got back from Aruba a few weeks ago. My DS is 20 months and can't sit still. Nowhere on the plane was safe. We sat towards the back bc there was no extra fee though. We got on last or towards the end. Less time just sitting on the plane. Going there he was ok. Just really had to keep him occupied. Coming home was a nightmare bc we were at the airport taxi'ing for about 45 mins. He was overtired and it was past his bedtime. Don't even want to tell you the nightmare we had. Anyway... Could go either way. My older DS is almost 4 and has been great for all his flights. He's been flying since 6 months.

IMO first row!! DS was able to stand up and have a little area to move around in and not bother anyone. We were first on and first off the plane.

Since it's Southwest - you don't want to risk waiting until the end and not having seats available together.
I tend to board early and get everyone settled in though when we fly.

We sat in the last row and the first row. We preferred the front row because there was more room for DD. This was on JetBlue

doesn't really matter but what is suggest is that your dh go on the plane first with all the stuff, then you go on at last call or a text from your dh saying he is having trouble saving seats- easier to save seats toward the back.
I would probably save an aisle and a middle seat - this way if you need to walk the aisle you can
also I learned if you stand in the back by the bathrooms you can use the hum of the engine to help sooth them if they have trouble going to sleep - usually really good loud white noise

I have flown with DS a few times now (he is 15 months). Back front it really doesn't matter. Its more about if you have a stranger in the row with you. THe location of the plane is not going to make a kid quieter.
I always had a window seat if it was a short flight (FL or less) I knew we wouldnt need to get up for that short a flight.
