IVF and # of eggs.....
I am tentatively scheduled for a retrieval this weekend and today's sono showed 3 relatively small eggs that were measurable and 3 smaller eggs that weren't yet. I'm taking 400 mg of Follitism and probably moving onto Menopur tonight (waiting on nurse's phone call to see).
Dr. said that depending on # of eggs we see by the end of the week that we may have to freeze this month's eggs, do another cycle to get more and then do the transfer. We are doing PGD, so it would make more sense to wait and collect more if we are paying 5K out of pocket for the testing.
My question is this...have any of you been in a position like this, where you didn't have many eggs at the start of the week, and then you were able to have more by the end? This is my first cycle, so I don't really know what to expect. Thank you!
ETA: I wrote Follinex, not Follotism

Re: IVF and # of eggs.....
I had a similar situation, I have lots of follicles but they are very stubborn and refused to grow!! My RE had me on a low dose of meds - 100 Follistm and 1 unit Menopur each night - because she was scared of over stimulation. I had heard that the average amount of time to be on stims was 10 days, I was on them for 16 days!! Every time I went for a sonogram they would tell me that I had a dominant on each side but that the others were very small. Finally, on day 13 of stims, the little ones 'took off.'
I ended up having 32 eggs at retrieval and 25 of those fertilized. We transferred 2 'beautiful blastocysts' on 3/16.
I know it's easy to get disheartened when you keep getting the same news each appt, but maybe your follies just need a little more time to grow - like mine did!
Wishing you lots of luck!!!

Thank you so much. I wonder now if I am going to be on the stims long enough.... They only have me tentatively scheduled for 10 days.

I think average time for stims is about 10 days but some people respond faster than others. It's possible that they assumed you stim for 10 days but you more than likely will stim for more. Good luck

Thank you....I guess I'll know more by the end of the week. Looks like I may need to stim a little longer than anticipated.

You will be surprised how much the follicles can grow each day. I think anywhere from 1-2mm a day.
