If you BFed, did your LO get sick if you or DH were sick?

I've read that BFing is supposed to prevent the baby from getting sick or at least minimize it since antibodies are passed along thru the milk. I'm just curious to know if this was true for anyone who BFed while sick, or if your LO got sick anyway. DH and I both have a bad cold and we don't have anyone to help us w DD so keeping our distance from her is not an option. So I'm just hoping it true that the breastmilk might help her fight it.

I BFed when I had a nasty cold twice. My doctor suggested wearing one of those surgical masks while BFing so you don't breathe on the baby, but I didn't . I just made sure never to sneeze on my DS, and while BFing I wasn't breathing right on him. And I was a maniac about washing my hands. Your LO should (hopefully) be fine. Feel better!!

Yes DD did catch a nasty cold when BFing. It unfortunately does not prevent all illnesses.

I recently had the type of cold where I couldn't even control my sneezing and coughing. I figured there is nothing I can do because she was probably exposed before I even showed symptoms.

She never got sick. I think it helps minimize it definitely.

I had bad colds and so did DH when my sons were babies.

They never caught it from us. We washed our hands, did the best we could.i didn't BF either.

The ped told us babies are often protected by Mom's antibodies left over by pregnancy. This wears off around 6 months.

Ugh, Unfortunately I'm dealing with this right now. My 2 year old came down with a cold and gave it to me. I was hoping my 6 week old would escape it, but no such luck. Poor baby is miserable. That said my first DD didn't get sick at all while breastfeeding even when I got a cold.

DS got RSV after we all had it at only 2 weeks old. He was EBF. besides that he has had minor colds when we all get sick, but they seem to effect everyone else far worse then it effects him. He still nurses at a few days shy of 2 years old.

Yes and no. We've had at least one of us consistently sick since DS was born 7 weeks ago. The first time I was sick (fever, awful neck and back aches) he didn't catch it. He did wind up getting a fever during the time DH and DD had the stomach virus. Not fun at all.

when I was pumping and I got a cold once or twice, it never was passed on to my little ones. Coincidence or antibodies? Not sure. But it seems now that they are 10 months and on formula, they don't get sick from us but vice versa!

My DD no but DS yes, probably from DD. Never full blown though, just a little congested.

I got sick as I was leaving the hospital. Full on cold. DS never caught it.
