still confused with Dr role with NT and AFP scan
So my understanding is when you have a scan the technician is supposed to do the measurements and take the pictures and the Dr is supposed to give you the results. I had my AFP earlier this week and at the end I asked when I would see the doctor about the results. The tech told me the Dr only needs to see me if something appears wrong and since everything looks good there is no need to bring him in. Is this like blood work, we'll call you if something is wrong. Otherwise no news is good news???

Re: still confused with Dr role with NT and AFP scan
At my practice, no news is good news.
The sono tech did the sono and took measurements. Then the nurse took the bloodwork.
I never spoke to my Dr about the results until my next regular appointment where she said all looked good.

Re: still confused with Dr role with NT and AFP scan
every doctors office is different.. at my 12 week NT scan the sono tech did the measurements and then the doctor called me in after and said the measurements looked good. then it took about 2 to 3 days after for the bloodwork to come back:) All the sono's are done in my doctors office so maybe thats why: )

Re: still confused with Dr role with NT and AFP scan
When I go in for my NT in a few weeks I have a half hour appointment with the tech for the sono and then a half hour with the doctor right after. But, it is a high-risk practice and I am a high-risk patient so that may be why!

My appt went the same way. They showed me everything was ok and pointed out arms, legs, head, organs, etc at the Anatomy scan...then told me the doctor would call if there were any problems.
