With sweet potatoes I would scrub them clean, poke holes in them, wrap in tin foil and bake in the oven at 400 for about an hour. Then let them cool a bit and purée in the food processor.

BN squash I roasted in the oven too. DS loved it!

I would roast it!

I halved it, scooped out seeds and put a small pat of butter & some orange juice where the seeds/pulp were.

Then I roast at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes.

For sweet potato, I just put it right on the rack and bake with the butternut squash, but for 1 hour instead of 40 minutes.

Exactly the same with sweet potatoes.

For squash, slice in half and remove the seeds. Place in a baking dish with about an inch of water and bake. I think I do 375 for about 45 minutes.

look at you making food Chat Icon

I know steaming is better for the food but when it comes to sweet potato I'm all for putting that thing in the oven. I wrap it up with aluminum and cook for 1hour at 400.

Haven't done squash yet but I'll be baking that too. All other veggies I steam.

Re: How do I make

either roast - cut in half - take out seeds, roast in 400 degree oven for 1 hr

or

boil in chicken broth on the stove top (similar to how you make mashed potatoes) - then puree in a blender or food processor! that is how I do it when I make Butternut squash soup!

How do I make

i steam them. but I have roasted them before, I would put them on a baking sheet or something because mine tend to leak some juices.

For sweet potatoes I peeled and cut into cubes and steamed till soft.

Butternut squash I cut in half, scraped out seeds, and put face down in an inch of water and baked. Then once done I scraped it out.

I didn't really know how either so I found out on wholesomebabyfood.com.

How do I make

Sweet potatoes i scrub and cut an x then wrap in foil bake in oven for about an hour you should be able to stick a fork in and it slides jn really easily. Then i scoop out the sweet potatoe from the skin and puree. Adding water until desired consistency.

Squash you cut in half the long way scoop out seeds put in a pan of about an inch of water then bake for about 40 min or until skin puckers turns brown then scoop out squash puree. Add water for desired consistency.

For both food this way ensures it retains the most nutrients.

I agree with going to wholesomebabyfood.com i get all my recipes from there including above.
