Any feedback on a New Orleans gateway? Things to see & do? How many days to stay are ideal?

Thanks!!

I think 4 days 3 nights is sufficient. We've been twice and really like the city. We did a gator/swamp tour and really enjoyed ourselves! Breakfast at "Eat" was awesome! NOLA (Emeril's restaurant) is also super yummy. No trip there is compleet without visiting Cafe Du Monde and having a Begnet. Also, take a trolley on Canal St. all the way into the Garden District. Have fun!

Thanks so much. How far away are those attractions from the hotels? Did you have to rent a car?

No, you definitely don't need a car. when you book a tour — to a plantation or a swamp — you are picked up but a tour bus.

No car is needed. Most (if not all tours) have a van that will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel =)

We went for 4 days and we did most of the things we wanted to do. You don't need a car to get around the city. We took cabs couple of times when to went to some places that weren't close to our hotel. To go to plantations, if you choose not to go with a tour you can rent a car for the day. We stayed on french quarter and there is an enterprise car rental that has pickup/drop off from the hotel. We ate at commander's palace one night. Most expensive dinner we had but worth it. Food and the service were great. If you don't want spend too much they have lunch special where prices are reasonable. Some things we did were..went to jackson square, cafe du monde, took the trolley to garden district where you will see cool architecture, went to a football game at the mercedes stadium, took a pedi cab from the stadium, and took a horse carriage ride. My favorite part was the food. I was in food heaven. Tried shrimp grits, po boys, craw fish, bread pudding with whiskey sauce, gumbo, and jambalaya. Cant wait to go back.

Wow. Are these trolley or sight seeing tours available for hotel pick up or do they have their own stop??
