diets?

I have already gained 30lbs at 25wks 2 days. Chat Icon This situation seems out of control. I asked my doctor to put me on some kind of healthy diet plan that I can follow or a GD diet and she refused. She acted like my weight gain was no big deal and said well you'll prob end up like last time (46lbs) or a little more. Chat Icon I'm really trying to avoid the numbers growing so much in the next 15 weeks. Has anyone been placed on a healthy regimented diet by their doc or is on GD diet that you can share? I feel like if I have a definite plan to follow then I will be able to control myself a little better.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: diets?

I don't follow a specific diet, but I refuse to put on the weight I did with my DS, because yes I was pregnant and should gain weight, but it wasn't healthy weight at all. It was edema and also eating wayyyyy too much crap.

So this time around I just flat out don't buy junk food for the house. If I don't have it here I won't eat it, and if I do have it while I am out, it is only a small amount and not as frequent.

Try keeping healthy snacks in your bag so when you get hungry you can have that instead of something out of a vending machine or something sugary, and try only buying healthy snack foods for home.

Instead of chips I get almonds, instead of cookies I buy oranges or some sort of sweet berries, instead of ice cream I get yogurt and put fruit and honey in it for dessert.

Hope this helps! Try not to worry about the numbers so much as if you are eating well. Sometimes our body just needs to put on more weight while we are pregnant. Chat Icon

You're in better shape than i am! Chat Icon

I was up 35 lbs at 25 weeks. My doctor gave me the talk and I cried. I wasn't eating out of control. I was eating healthy foods and no sweets etc. I was underweight when I got pregnant and extremely active (think fitness competition training program) so once the first trimester nausea and fatigue set in, I was done. I spoke with my sister who is an OBGYN and she was so mad that the doctor said anything at all. Our bodies do what they need to do while pregnant to sustain a healthy pregnancy! After that appointment, I really made an effort to watch and eat non processed foods and not as many fats (avocado etc). I also exercised for at least 30 minutes every day. When I went back the next month my measurements had increased but my weight went down a pound. Some people gain the majority of their weight at the beginning, some the middle, some the end. Just try not to worry about it and to eat right for you and your baby. The weight willc ome off at the end if you want it to!

Your body will gain exactly what you and baby need. Unless you are eating fast food every day, then don't stress yourself out, especially if your doctor isn't concerned. All the weight will come off after delivery! Chat Icon

Now is not the time to worry about a few pounds. If anything cut out junk and replace with fruits and veggies but I still beleive your body gains what it wants and needs and you can put anything in your mouth and it won't drastically change the weight.

Re: diets?

Im up a pound for every week pregnant I am (been steady climb) 25lbs in 25 weeks. Its HAAARRDD not to go overboard esp when your hungry so I try to eat small snacks through out the day & like the OP said if there is NO JUNK to be eaten you wont.
Water
Water
Water (seltzer for me) is also good for weight control and watch salt that bloats.
Exercise is also key at least 30 min (walking, DVD, treadmill, elliptical..whatever your got)
At this point try to maintain instead of losing. All the effort you make will pay off at the end when you want to get back into shape. Good Luck

diets?

I gained a total of 45lbs with my pregnancy. It is what it is. It will come off. I will get on a scale for the first time this Wednesday and I don't expect to see much in the way of a loss but I'm not concerned, it will come off eventually.

If you're eating healthy, active and taking your prenatals and still gaining weight then that is what your body is going to do. If you're eating a lot of junk food - ice cream, cookies etc (which was me towards the end) then just swap it out with fruit, healthy snacks and try walking a little each day - drink more water (this was the hardest for me). Like PPs have said, now is not the time to worry about your weight and as long as baby is getting what they need that is all that should matter especially if your doctor isn't concerned. Also some people just gain a lot in the beginning so you may not see much of an increase from here to the end.

Re: diets?

What are you eating? Were you a healthy eater prior to being pregnant? I had GD and the diet was awesome. It made me realize you don't need what you think you do.

diets?

When I was a little concerned about how rapid my weight gain was they told me just to go easier on the carbs and not to drink my calories. No juices, and try to snack on protein fruits and veggies. Not sure how you are eating now, or if this helps, but you probably are not going to get an eat healthy answer like this as opposed to a diet answer. And don't worry about it so much - I wasn't going crazy with food and eventually realized thats just what my body needed to do. I never drank juice to begin with and I did tone the sweets down a bit but I kept eating the same for the most part because for the most part it was good. Eventually the weight gain trailed off so its all working out to add up to a healthy amount of weight.

I'm no doctor but I honestly think your body does what it wants to do. I ate pretty healthy and still had a pretty significant weight gain. I ended up gaining about 60lbs during my pregnancy. DS is going to be 4 months this week and I've pretty much lost all of it. As healthy as I ate, I was on the smaller side to begin with so I think my body just needed the extra pounds. Don't drive yourself crazy.
