Holy Sh!t (National Grid)
I just got my end of the year balanced billing and they claim we owe them over $1500.
We were out of our home with no gas/electric on for more than a month with Sandy.
I got through to a representative and they are sending someone out next week to read the meter......claiming it hasn't been read in over 2 years.
I checked what we paid at the end of the year last year and it was only $375.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
Were you successful getting it knocked down?

My paranoia is setting in that this is how they are going to try to get $$$ back after Sandy.

Did you go out and read your meter and compare to what's on the bill? Chances are it was read, and read incorrectly. Especially since they adjust every month if you are in the hole a lot for the budget plan.

Meter is in our basement and if I am reading it correctly based on what is on the bill, yes, they really made a huge mistake.
I also don't think it's been that long since anyone's been here.

Re: Holy Sh!t (National Grid)
We don't do balanced billing, but last August we got a bill for $800. I knew this couldn't be right and when I called them, they agreed right away. They had read the meter wrong.
You can call and ask them to move the meter outside so no one had to be there when they come to read it - we did this. Also, after they made this mistake they installed a new meter which is apparently easier to read.

Re: Holy Sh!t (National Grid)
I am new to having gas, but what I have learned is that they suck at estimating. Last month was an estimated reading and for some reason for only 28 days of service. The bill was $70 higher than the month prior that was 36 days. In fact, that estimated reading took plays 17 days ago and we are still way shy of the number they estimated. I probably won't do balanced billing because of the antics they have shown me already.

Well we should see.
I'm trying to remain positive.
I saw someone yesterday who is from Lindenhurst and she said a lot of her neighbors are complaining about the same thing, and many of them were out of their homes much longer than I was.

Re: Holy Sh!t (National Grid)
They originally charged me over $500 because it was estimated. I read it myself and called it in explaining we also were not in our home for almost 2 months. The accepted my reading and it ended up being a little over 100

This happened to us on Friday too. Came home to an $1800 bill
Who ever came and read the meter was off by a lot.
I called and read the correct number, and they are adjusting my bill.

wow, this is a huge administrative nightmare for them. I guess they are hoping that some people just pay it?

You don't need someone to read it, you can do it yourself.
