Signing w/ a Realtor

I'm having a brain fart - so bear with me.

It seems popular for agents to have you, the buyer, sign this 'contract' before they show you a listing. I can't - for the life of me - remember what the name of this 'contract' is nor what it entails.

My question however is, am I obligated to sign this? What if I don't want to work with an agent? Doesn't this 'contract' oblige me to this realtor for a certain amount of time?

Am I "allowed" to decline signing this??

Re: Signing w/ a Realtor

I just became a realtor, and I would never ask my buyers sign anything that would make them obligated to use me. I would much rather give them my loyalty, and just ask for it in return. There's no way I'd expect any buyer to TRUST me, if I started by asking them to sign on the dotted line. That's just not how I'd want to do business.

To answer your question, you can absolutely decline to sign anything!!

I signed a couple of those things (I can't remember the name either) but I don't think it made me obligated to use that agent. I certainly didn't. I thought it was something to do with showing the home and that if we made an offer it would be added on.

Re: Signing w/ a Realtor

the only thing we ever signed was something about the seller paying their comission.
