Quotes for redoing bathroom....
This is the first "major" construction we're looking to do on our house, and we just received the first quote which was basically a number with a list of whats included. I guess I was expecting it to be a little more itemized.....what was estimated for tile, what was estimated for toilets, vanity, etc, this is what is estimated for labor. Is that normal? That way if we want to cut something out, we can easily see what it will save, and we can also do some sense checking to see if what they've built in is reasonable. New to this process so any help is much appreciated!

I had the same experience you did when learning to work with contractors. You can ask him or her to break it down farther. What I found to work best was to pick out the materials at the beginning, send in the material selections and ask the contractor what the cost would be taking into account your choices. Or, if you aren't ready with the selections ask the contractor to requote with only labor and materials, no finishes and then you will pay for the items as it comes time to install them.

Thanks, that is a good idea, I am going to ask for a quote of just labor & materials. I feel like it's a ridiculous quote. We have a few other estimates pending also so I'm anxious to compare.

Quotes for redoing bathroom....
We just had our house gutted and had everything done except the main bathroom bc our contractor quoted us $10k for a pretty small bathroom. I think we are just going to buy everything and have a general contractor install which would probably run us $3k when all is said and done. Don't know what goes into a $10k bathroom.
