2 year old and funerals
So Dhs grandma passed away yesterday  her and my in laws live 4 1/2 hours away. Because of the distance, my in laws haven't seen DS ( their only grandkid) since January. They are pressuring us to bring DS to the funeral ( which will be one day this week). They do this a lot and I can't take it!!! Especially since it was their choice to move so far from us ( DH is their only kid).
I just can't picture driving 4 1/2 hours with a 2 year old, then making him hang out at the funeral home all day! And ILs house is about an hour from where the funeral will be, so it's not like it will be easy to take DS back there if he gets bored.
Should I just suck it up and take him? Or just ignore ILs and stay home with DS while DH travels for the funeral?

If it were me, I would just go and bring him but DD was very easy and it wouldn't have been a real stress for me. It depends on you and your DS. Do what's going to work best for you.
So sorry for your loss.

If it were my family or DH's I would bring DS. We do not treat funerals as a huge somber event. It is more of a celebration of their lives. Yes its sad but there isn't huge sobbing etc.
I think it depends on the family.

I would go and DC also. My kids have been to a few funerals and they have done fine. When DS was 2 my FIL passed away and I was a few weeks pregnant. It was hard but we went. The funeral home had a kids room so we took the kids their and parents took turns taking care of the kids. Maybe find out if the funeral home has a kids room.
It's DHs grandma.....I would go and take DC.

I would bring DC and bring some quiet stuff for them to do in a corner: crayons, coloring books etc

I would definitely go with DH and DS. I would even consider not going. But I wouldn't do it as a day trip. I would book a hotel room to break up the trip and still allow some privacy.

Sorry for your DH loss.
I didnt bring my DS to my DH grandma funeral. At not yet 2 years old, it wouldn't be fair to him, or us.
Took turns with DH going (we also had a newborn).
I'm not a fan of babies/toddlers at wakes. IMO (though I know others take it differently and that's good too) they are not social events or family reunions.
