Did you moved out during it? Also did you have the workers in your house during the day when you weren't home? We're having some work done and they gave us an estimate of 4-6 weeks. I wasn't thinking the project would take so long, so initiallly I was planning to take time off work but I cant take that much time! TIA!

In my other house we had a lot of work done. We didn't move out, but we didn't have kids at the time either. If you have kids I would consider it. Everything was such a mess. I did leave them in the house alone. The man doing it had done a lot of work for us before and I trusted him... Plus we didn't have a lot to steal. Lol.

Cover everything in plastic!

When we had work done in my moms house we didn't move out. We just sealed off doorways/rooms with tarps and lived in a few rooms during that time.
The contractor had a key to our house and we trusted him to come and go as he pleased.

We doubled the size of our house, but we basically added a new house next to our existing house, so we lived in the house during the construction. It took roughly 4 months, so of course there were plenty of times when the workers were in the house without us. DW is a SAHM, so they never had a key, but for a while, the "key" to the house was a screwgun to take down the plywood in the openings... Chat Icon

We are having a total home gut done as we speak and we are staying in the house despite the obstacles but there is no where else for us to go. The foreman has a key to our house and they work while we are at work.
