I am surprising my DH with a weekend bday trip to Newport, RI. Can anyone recommend any restaurants, and activities to do?
TIA!

When are you going? Will it be warm out or still cold? If its warm, I would recommend a sunset sail from the harbor. A tour of the mansions you can do any time of year. There's a blues club, Newport Blue Cafe that was fun, for seafood, Scales & Shells. And there was a really good restaurant that I *think* was diagonally across the street from the blues club, it was upstairs, kind of modern looking, but I cannot remember the name of it.

Re: Newport, RI
Mansion tours - the Breakers is just phenomenal.
it will likely be VERY cold, but I'd bundle up and do the cliff walk. I'd also take the 10 mile drive. Very pretty around sunset.

We went in November so it was roughly th same weather...the mansion are breathe taking, we wet to the marble house and the Breakers.
We ate a Pier 41 i think it was called, right on the water. The food was cery good.

Re: Newport, RI
We went in summer of 2010 and stayed at the fair st inn. I would definitely take the ferry to Block Island for the day. We didn't do that during our last trip.
For dinner, I remember we enjoined Cook, Hall, and Hyde right on the waterfront.
