Re: Clearwater Beach hotel recommendations
The Sandpearl looks really nice. The Hyatt as well. We stayed at the Quality Hotel on the beach since most things were sold out when we went. It's further down next to the Sand Key bridge. We had a nice stay (was with my kids), but I would have preferred to be closer to the public beach. We had a partial gulf view, and it was actually a great view! Loved the pool, they have an outdoor bar and live music on the weekends. An Ihop is attached for breakfast, etc. The beach front is small, but nice. There is a trolley stop out front of the hotel, and the trolley takes you down to the public beach. You could probably walk in 10 minutes, but we had beach gear, so it was easier to drive. If you are parking at the public lots, you need to get there early in the morning to get a spot. Pier 60 is where we parked.
Stay away from Shephards, and the Wyndham looks nice, but again, far from the public beach (it's right near the Quality across from Sand Key). Coconut Cove looks nice too, but not on the beach. Holiday Inn I would skip, no beach access from the hotel. ETA: I guess I wouldn't say these places are that far, Clearwater Beach is a very small area, but we were just too lazy to walk with the beach gear lol.
Also at the public beach they have umbrella and chair rentals. You just sit in one and they come around and collect the money from you. I think opening to close was $25, so you might be better off hitting Walgreen's, Target or one of the million beach shops and buying your own umbrell and just leaving it, depending on how many days you are staying.
